Title: Chemipro oxi residue
Post by: mcgrath on August 24, 2015, 07:49:25 PM
Anyone know how to remove residue left behind from chemipro oxi clean. I left a corny to soak over night and there is now a white scumline left behind where the top of the liquid was. I have tried soaking in hot water(approx 60degC) and scrubbing. I also tried re-soaking in chemipro oxi for an hour with hot water to see if it would remove itself with no luck. It seems to have left a white crystallised deposit on the steel. It feels rough to touch but doesn't come off with a stainless steel scrubbing pad or scratching with finger nail.  Anyone have a solution? I'm probably guilty of adding too much powder to the water initially, as I didn't measure it out.

Do you have hard water? I hear it can leave a residue in hard water areas. Try an acidic rinse (if it's the hard water thing).

Measuring is definitely a habit I need to get into too.

PH down from an aquarium shop removes it.. I had it on a carboy and nothing moved it.. Got a tip of another member about PH down... Gone straight away

If the surface is pitted or rough something is going on there, chemipro oxi is good for stainless though
try a concentrated solution of starssan to shift it at say double strength

So starsan, acid, vinegar and Calgon have all been linked with shifting this.I haven't felt any pitting but it may be pitted under the white buildup. I'll try some of the above and report back..
Thanks for the tips..

I think I know what this is, it's not pitting. It's undissolved bits of chemipro, annoying to try and shift. It sticks to surfaces and can collect in the bottom of the vessel. Starsan does seem to get rid of it, I use a two step cleaning and sanitizing process using chemipro then Starsan. The chemipro is always gone after the Starsan

Great news. I just got a bottle of starsan yesterday so I'll try that.. will update with results. Although this only happened since I ran out of starsan... So I'm seeing a connection.

Just to update this.. starsan and some scrubbing removed this nicely. Corny thankfully ready to go again..
