Title: Plate chiller size
Post by: Oh Crap on August 28, 2015, 04:18:02 PM
Just wondering is bigger better when getting a plate chiller?
I do 25/30 l batches and was looking around at various options. Is a 12 plate sufficient to cool that volume in 10/15 mins?

With that size batch the bigger you go the quicker it will cool... i have a 30 plate chiller.. it is a fantastic , with 25/30 litre batches i can cool straight to the ferm . I havent timed it but its in thr 7 to 10 min range. Got a pump recently so now i recirc back to the boiler. I am below 60 degrees in no time

I use this chiller  https://www.brewbuilder.co.uk/125kw-30-plate-chiller.html

Basically I can cool my wort through as fast as I can pump it!
