Windows 10 arrived for my Laptop.
No mention of 'Careful now' so I left it do its thing.
But apparently Win10 doesn't like SSD Drives - so now my Laptop does not boot.
Boo Microsoft.
Had similar experience recently. Temptation to upgrade is powerful stuff
In fairness to MS, they call you back.
In case anyone needs to grab a copy...

You will need a key, not sure if your Win7 key will work.
If you are tempted, BACK UP, BACK UP, BACK UP.
Don't be fooled by the Sit back and Relax twaddle...
Thanks for the warning, finally clicked on upgrade today, I'll have a better look at it before I fully commit.
I upgraded my windows machine.... To Ubuntu 😁
I should do the same Eoin, but right now I want to recover my shtuff.
It seems that my machine is fine for the most part EXCEPT for SSD.
Unfortunately the drive is a 1.8" microsata
Apparently it is possible to get W10 running on it but it involves dropping it on to a HDD, then cloning to SSD.
Ho hum...

This just became a standard computer forum thread.
OP says ' windows did something bad'
Post 5 says 'use Linux Its waaaay better'
Disclaimer; Post 5 is probably right, but use Linux with care if you dont know what you're doing
Sorry to hear about the mishap. I upgraded my pc at home which uses ssd must have been lucky. It's a much nicer operating system.
John, if you have another working computer try downloading a copy of Puppy linux from here http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm (http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm)
Its a tiny linux OS that runs in RAM alone and doesnt need to access a HD to boot up. you'll need to boot it up from a cd or usb but ive used it a few times to salvage stuff from laptops with broken windows
I'm comfortable with Linux although it's been a while. I give up for tonight.
Fyi machine is a Lenovo T410s, i5 and 8GB, great soldier up to now.
Greets from LinuxLand!
I have Puppy Quirky running on a USB stick.
Running Testdisk on this which showed me my missing partition, although after a reboot it disappeared again, Gah!
Regardless, I managed to drop a dd image on to an external drive.
Plus I managed to 'see' (i.e. its not _really_ visible) the missing filesystem and am now copying off the Users folder.
Progress is being made.
Thanks for the inputs lads.
Remember what the old time mechanics said:
"If it ain't broke don't fix it"
My Toshiba LT is still working with Win 7 ultimate and will stay that way unitil it glitches and then I will buy a new macine with whatever O/S is installed on it.
