Title: Fermentation chamber
Post by: marzen scorsese on October 08, 2015, 08:10:54 PM
Hey all I'm finally finishing my fermentation chamber and I was wondering whether 2 inches of kingspan is enough and is 4 inch overkill. My fermentation chamber is situated in the shed and is cold even in summer (lol) I usually go with a more insulation the better attitude but I'm not big on waste or spending money  :)

The extra insulation will reduce the space inside which is under a bench and wont affect fitting everything I need inside and may be kinder on the fridge I'm using

Also I got hold of a fire extinguisher which is full of co2 and was wondering could I use this the reason I ask is on my googling I came across a lot (mostly Americans) using them and they seem happy enough that it's safe and the co2 is good. I'm just wondering if anyone here has done it or has any info. The reg fits and I was going to fix it to the wall upside down

2 inch should be fine, but if you want to go 4 inch it will be that bit more sturdy.

You can use a fire extinguisher, but you'll need to bring it to a specialist to have the diptube removed.
Honestly, you'd probably be better off just asking your local gas guys to sort you out.
I think my 2kg tank, modified and filled was about 25 euro. cant remember exactly.

If you hang it upside down it's supposed to nullify the dip tube but 25 is for nothing and a proper job too and that means I have a fire extinguisher in the shed which is probably no bad thing  ;D

If anybody has a gas supplier in Munster I'd appreciate it I'm in limerick

How long are you getting out of the 2kg bottle lordeoin how many cornys roughly

Do not use an upside-down unmodified fire extinguisher.

no idea how long the 2kg lasts to be honest. It's just my backup for when the 6kg runs out.

Cheers lordeoin I'm going to get onto Munster gas tomorrow and see what they can do for me. See if the have a 6kg and a 2kg and do it right I couldn't be running out of gas midway through a supping session

Not yet brewdorg I'm hoping to do it this week. I have an ale nearly ready to go into the corny so I'd want to be getting a move on soon. Have you used them before
