Title: Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
Post by: Kevin O'Roundwood on October 12, 2015, 05:36:14 PM
Just stuck this on, looking forward to seeing how it turns out....

Coopers Irish Stout Kit
Dark Spraymalt 1 kg
Carapils 300g
Roasted Barley 200g
Chocolate Malt 100g
Porridge Oats 200g
Dextrose 250g
Cadburys Drinking Chocolate 250g

Used the Coopers yeast under the cover and plan on priming with Wheat DME
Topped up the FV to 21L
OG 1060

The wort tastes delicious already.... lets hope the beer turns out half as well. Any comments on the above (or mistakes/whatever) feel free to chastise me  ;)

Sounds great, may have a crack at something similar soon. Keep us updated!

Did you just steep the oats with the other grains?

I actually kept them separate. I only had two small pots so had to split them up anyway so I put the porridge oats in a nylon hop bag and steeped that in a different pot to the grains.

Maybe I steeped the oats too hot but can't see how I could have gotten the water out of it if I hadn't put it in a bag cos it just turned to porridge! (surprise surprise....)
