Title: Whiskey in Beer barrels?
Post by: DamienE on November 08, 2015, 07:49:42 PM
Never thought I'd see whiskey maturing in ex- beer barrels

Saw this ex-stout barrel expression!

What did you think of it?

I had some last year and I didn't think it improved the standard product.

I really like it, I have a bottle from the first batch of them. Only had it again recently. I remember Shane saying at a tasting night for it that Jameson were planning on longer aged versions of it, it'll be interesting to see how that will affect the whiskey.

Thought it was still nice. Didn't notice much difference from whiskey made blends of ex-bourbon & ex-cherry casks. I think there must be plenty of whiskey content matured conventional way

I think you can't beak pot still whiskey for complexity & flavour punch

My favorits are Powers John's Lane & Green Spot

It wasn't the highlight of the particular occasion. Think you concurred with my assessment?

I had a wee taste a while back.
I could not taste the impact of the stout.
Maybe you need to do a side by side which means that the impact is very subtle.

We did side by side. Personally, I thought the stout dulled the whiskey. Regular got my vote.

I thought the FW got the better deal out of that exchange.

Interesting how among other things like ex-bourbon casks, port pipes, olorosso cherry, medira casks, craft beer has been elevated to being listed as a maturing influence on whiskey.

I wonder if they want to buy a few of our old barrels?

Jameson aged on Belgian Sour Casks?
