I'm looking to upgrade my kegerator in the near future and I'm wondering what are people's thoughts/experiences with the above?
I already have a fridge as a kegerator but I'm looking for something larger that will hold 4 kegs. My only concern is the weight that two full cornies would put on the bits of plastic that support the shelving, as I would like to have 2 kegs at the bottom of the fridge and 2 more on an upper level. Is there anyway to reinforce the shelves?
The other option is a chest freezer but this would take up considerably more space. Thoughts?
Sheet of plywood in side slots with kitchen cupboard legs supporting underneath?
tall big larder fridge as keezers generate condensation and are a pig to clean.
I have both.
I wanted mine in the house so I didn't have to trek to the shed every time I wanted a pint. The only place available was in the living room. This required sign off from SWMBO. A refrigerator wasn't going to cut it as it's hard to make it look good. I showed her a picture of a coffin keezer build from homebrewtalk that looked great she bought off on that.
Here's a picture I took this weekend of the work in progress (I'm going to write it up once its done). Going to start the coffin this week and start to drill holes in the freezer lid next ???
Ha, that looks great Pheel! Fair play on the wood work, it looks great!
I have both too, but I use the fridge as a kegerator and chest for conditioning at the moment. The kegs are a lot harder to manoeuvre in the fridge compared to the chest but I have three of the buggers crammed in, one too many really!
Leg supports would probably do the trick alright if I went for the fridge.
Maybe a very large keezer that would hold about 7-8 kegs wold do the trick. I could fit a collar and put in 4 taps.
I use a chest freezer myself, put a collar on it but it's just purely for kegs. I run the lines onto taps mounted onto a bar then. I put an stc onto it to keep it at around 2c. Just remember to program in a decent compressor delay so you don't burn it out
Yeah I use stc's and delays on all my temp controlled fridges/freezers
