Title: BJCP style guidelines - Possible Error?
Post by: imark on December 11, 2015, 04:29:56 PM
I was looking through the 2015 style guidelines and I think there is an error in the comments on Cat 23C.
"As in fruit lambics, Oud Bruin can be used as a base for fruit-flavored beers such as kriek (cherries) or frambozen (raspberries), though these should be entered in the Classic-Style Fruit Beer category. "

It refers to Classic-Style Fruit Beer. I cant find that in the list. Are they referring to 29A Fruit Beer? Any of you BJCP heads able to clarify please?

Seeing as the BJCP heads are all still in bed nursing sore heads.. ;)

I'd say they're definitely referring to 29A. Though it is a bit vague. I think they're just trying to distinguish it from 29C Specialty Fruit Beer.

In this case, the word "classic" refers to fruit added to a classic (recognised) style.

Yeah the fruit beers are a standard beer that has fruit added. You always specify the base beer and the fruit to be judged against and then both styles are referred too.
