Title: Borosilicate Sight Glass
Post by: Parrot on January 05, 2016, 02:55:47 PM
Happy New Year everyone ;D

With all the excitement over my mind is turning to a new year of brewing and I want to make a few minor improvements to my setup before I get underway.

I know this subject was briefly discussed in another thread in 2014 but I'm looking for a sight glass with a Stainless Steel fitting and Borosilicate tube or other similarly safe material. I'm not worried about graduations as I can do them myself if needed. Finding a supplier of such a luxury item is proving to be a PITA.

Anyone got anything useful I can follow up on or a straight forward link to a supplier?

A lot of US Homebrewers are just using silicon tubing for their sight tubes now, no question of breaking and when it's cruddy after 10 or 20 boils  just replace in minutes

I went for this one because it was a compression fitting.  http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Brewer-Economy-Kettle-Sight-Glass-Kit-1-2-MPT-1-2-Polycarbonate-Tubing-Food-Grade-Silicone/1017341_32514021466.html My thought was that if it breaks, i can use a bit of tubing as CH said

Got the tee to match but unfortunately it doesn't come with a plug so i had to order that aswell.  Still have to put it into action so can't tell you what its like

Any idea where to get such tubing that won't get soft and flabby when heated - just as a stand-by!

This is the best silicone I've come across, I got some from abbey seals and it's useless, and was double the price.

I have the parts ordered for my silicone sight glass, the last thing I need to buy is the kettle to put it on.

Best description.

It's Damo from GCBrewers, great tubing.
