Now, it has been a few days so what's the story here? How do we get the hops? Do we have to wait until the list is full?
We can probably close off list now, haven't had any new requests for a few days. I'll send a copy onto Get'Er Brewed.
You (& the other club reps) need to place an order with Get'Er Brewed & then request for the hops to be sent with it. Make sure you reference your order with your clubs name.
It'll be up to you to distribute the hops to your club & make sure we get a review back (I'll be chasing the reps up)
Great. Oh, can you pass on the contact details too?
The way it works is that when placing a regular order you mention you are part of the NHC Slovenian hops offer and just quote your username and Get'er will ship what you have requested on the list.
We'd be breaking Data protection laws by giving member details to a third party.
Order placed for Midland's: 19212
NCB Order placed (#19217)
Many thanks to Geter for this great offer.
I dont need to order anything soon and Cruiscinlan is the only one from Capital with his name down so he will be placing an order himself
The lads we're in the store working at these yesterday and have packed up the 9 varieties into 2 x 50g packets for each variety
When you place your order add a note in the comment box at checkout to claim your hops for review
We would appreciate a quick review and thankyou for your interest, we eagerly await your feedback
Thanks
Jonathan
My lot has arrived so I'll get those to the Midlands Brewers' when I can.
Order placed for Galway Homebrewers Club: #19290
Order placed for Rebel Brewers. Order # 19291.
Us in the NCB are thinking of holding a competition based on the beers brewed with these hops.
No quite sure yet but it will be basically like the Smithwicks challenge:
Any malts/yeast but only the Slovenian hops. We may have to allow some simple bittering hops like Magnum (not sure yet). You could also buy some more fromGeB!
Style can be anything but given the hop varietys then its likely to be light summery ales/lagers etc.
When: Judging will be early summer
Bjcp: Very probably
Venue' Old Boro in Swords
More details to come after the next meeting (tomorrow)
Sounds good. I'm in!
Hi All,
thinking of making a Slovenian IPA, anyone got any feedback yet? I know there'd be no finished beers made from this group yet, but if anyone can even let me know if there is a promising smell from the bag or the kettle post boil, it would be greatly appreciated,
It's the cardinal, wolf and cascade that I'm leaning towards,
ta very much,
Order #19323 placed for Capital Brewers (i.e. me).

I brewed this 3 weeks ago. It is sitting in bottles (has been for a week). Tried one on Wednesday, still green obviously but carbing nicely. The Wolf has given it a nice bitter edge, and although very young in the bottle the Bobek and Aurora have given it an almost fruity taste. Waiting to see how it develops. Oh, and instead of Maris Otter I used Irish pale.
Order placed (Order #19373). Thanks!

I will brew a SNPA style, bittering with Saaz, and using the Wolf, Cardinal & Cascade for aroma, flavour and dry hopping.

Like the idea.
Them details ready yet, lads ;)?
(I know time can slow down a bit after the meets) ;D
Re the competition:
We are hammering out the details over this weekend and at our next meet (O'Boro on the 9th) but it will be along the guidlines above with probably a date of last Saturday in May.
An update for you. My brew is nearing 6 weeks in the bottle. There is a definite bitterness to it, which is fading slightly, but if I were to brew this again I would certainly go easier on the Wolf. The aroma though is amazing - almost strawberry with a citrus twang. Again, if I were to do this, more aroma hops (but that is my personal view - I like my beers, if they are to be hoppy, to smell like they have been hopped to within an inch of their life). Overall, a quaffable ale.....
Just a reminder that the NCB sponsored competition registration sysstem is up and running.

Now, so far I have not seen many NHC reviews of these hops so here is my initial thoughts on 2 of the 3 varities I have. Note that the beers is only 4 days in the fermenter so flavours are yet to assessed:
Get'er'Brewed Styrian Hops Review
St. Cascade. 5.6%
Pellets very well formed, shinny, no dust to speak of. Hard and well compressed
Aroma: Fresh, refreshing citrus almost sherbet like aroma. Grapefruit acidic notes.
St. Dana. 11.5%
Pellets very well formed, less shinny and less dense than the Cascade. Slight dust present.
Aroma: Fresh citrus, hints of pine and resin. Warmer notes than the cascade.
St. Bobek. 5.2%
Yet to be opened!
Currently doing a Saison using the Bobek, Will. Just need to keg and dry hop with the remaining Bobeks, hopefully in a week from now.
It's my first attempt at a Saison but if it's not completely shite I promise to enter it for the comp.
Cheers,
- Barry
I finally got my hands on these last week, thanks to Get er brewed, Taf and Johnrm. The last leg of the NHC express to west cork (being myself) was a bit slow to get into the city. Haven't opened them yet but I'm planning to brew something with them tomorrow. Probably going to do an APA/IPA type thing and just wing it with the hops depending on what they taste and smell like.
I've done a schwarzbier, Vienna smash and milk stout, all with the stryian Golding's. Plenty of herbal character coming through and bittering is spot on.
I brewed an IPA with a mix of three of the hops. It's still in the fermenter and I plan on kegging this weekend.
I used a full 50g packet of Dana, Cardinal and Wolf at 60, 5 and 0 minutes respectively.
I'm using the Aurora (Super Styrian) in a Californian Common, currently sitting in the FV; its a hybrid developed from Northern Brewer, so hoping for good results.
Good hop & herbal notes.
Great feed back, hope you are going to enter our comp!
Definitely (once I've tasted it in a week or so).
There should be a few Wickla ones coming over the border for the comp.
Brewed a Black IPA with 35g mix of Styrian Wolf, Aurora and Cardinal at 15, 10 and 5 minutes then a 2oz mix added at 75c and left in until after cooling & whirlpool.
Pre-dry hopping tasting notes is of a very fruity character reminiscent of a single-hopped Mosaic brew I had last year. After one week in the fermenter, very drinkable at room temperature!
Brewed a rye beer with 50g each of Dana, Cardinal and Aurora mostly added at the end of the boil in equal quantities.
Kegged last Saturday and it has a bit of a strange taste. Closest I can describe is Lychee but it's not very complimentary to the beer. Anyone else experienced something like this from any of these hops?
I've also never brewed a rye beer with rye 25% of the grist so it could also be this?
Lads,
I'm thinking of grabbing some of these hops in my next order. Will be putting them in a 5% pale with a big US bitterness addition.
Any recommendations?
If you like Asian fruit flavours like lychee then cardinal is the one to go for.
