That's right, folks; first meet of the Belfast brewers in 2016.
Hoping to see a mixture of old and new members.
The only pre-requisite is that you bring at least one of the following:
- yourself
- homebrew samples, either for critique or just to show off how effing good they are
- questions - remember; no question is stupid - only people are stupid
- ideas / suggestions for future events (e.g. brewday's, equpiment builds, brewery visit, etc)
- any other ideas loosely brewing-related
- gimp mask (Andy suggested this one; 'see what way the night goes' were his exact words)
- a thirst for knowledge, beer and power (Power's?)
No agenda as yet, but it'd be good to devote some time towards discussing the upcoming Belfast heat of the Nationals; we need all the help we can get, so this discussion is for everyone, old and new.
In the interests of providing Spoons with approximate numbers please reply if you think you can make it.
Also, please reply with anything you'd like to see covered during the meet. Remember; this is your club, and it's your club to use.
See you there!
- Barry
N.B. My wife is missing her weekly yoga class so I can go to this meet. I've still no idea what the payback will be for this but I won't lie that I'm a little scared. Now there's dedication, right there.
I'm in.
Got a session IPA punk clone should be done by then.
I think it's important we discuss the Nationals but if anyone has some knowledge and experience with balancing beer lines I'd appreciate it before I even think of connecting the gas!
Works for me. Have a Black IPA that should be ready by then I wouldn't mind some feedback on.
Happy New Year to you too......................Git!
Look, it takes all sorts!
I just thought - in trying to attract new membership - that we could reach out to those beer gimps who are just to shy to approach us in 'Spoons.
I'm sure, once they realise that we even take in strays from Tyrone, they would feel more comfortable - once they got over the language barrier!
Oh, and I'll get back to you about the 4th. Going to look into going down to the Alltech event that weekend.....hear there are some great gimp clubs in Dublin!
Blow-ins welcome? gonna try and make it to talk comp. Andy can you not do both!, I'll even bring the the cat o' nine tails ;)
Belfast Brewers.....as discussed, I have started putting together some info on accommodation near Brewbot, for anyone who might want to stay over on the 20th Feb.
I am not making recommendations, these are the closest (walking distance) from Brewbot. If you know anymore please add them to the list.

Ah sure Wicklow's practically South Belfast. More than welcome, man; be good to see you there.
Come to think if it, most of us 'Belfast' lads are blow-ins of one description or another anyway.
Cheers,
- Barry

True that. From the mountains of mourne myself. Will be good to see you there!
As I said before I work shifts, unfortunately this one falls on a night shift for me so I'm out. I'll keep my eyes peeled for next one though.
Not gonna be able to make this one and I've nothing brewed in a while. Sorry lads.
Don't have to bring anything..........just yourself!...............tell us about that Grainfather thingy.........
Hi All,
Just a reminder; first Belfast meet of 2016 is this day fortnight. Get your applications submitted to your SO's now or, even better, bring them along! Better than any dinner dance, since there's no obligation to spend 100+ quid on a raffle ticket to win a signed football that you didn't want.
Everybody welcome.
Cheers,
-Barry
I might take a trip up for this actually. :)
Will see if I can make it down

Anyone want some Target hops? Mix of leaf and pellet. All vacuum packed and in the freezer.
Was thinking the same. Don't have any beer to share this month between getting married/honeymoon and being sick for a while but I've more hops in the freezer than I know what to do with. If anyone wants some I can bring a selection with me for sharing out.

Because I still have his crates :)

I prefer the russian roulette we play in Spoons 50% no off-flavour beer last time :-)
On the subject of hops, I've just placed an order with GEB and asked them to include the hops we requested for review:
Styrian Aurora
Styrian Bobek
Styrian Cardinal
Styrian Wolf
We can have a chat at the meet about what we want to do with them, or how we want to divvy them out.
Cheers,
-Barry
Sure we'll just fire them all into a Styrian special IIPA?! ;)
Sorry guys in GB with work
I over ordered some carapils so have 6x500g bags (uncrushed) if anyone wants any.
You can't the look on the locals faces at meets where we all share the green and brown stuff in brick shaped clingfilm
Hopefully make it down if the dentist doesn't butcher me on thursday afternoon
Some of those pink spoons beer makes for a lovely anaesthetic mouthwash
***Posting to the correct thread this time***
Right, just off the phone to Spoons confirming numbers. They're going to reserve the usual space in the upstairs bar from 8pm onwards for 10-12 souls. This could be our biggest meet in a while. Must be to do with our esteemed guests :P
My GEB order arrived yesterday so I'll bring along the Slovenian hops for us to divvy out. They're in 50g bags, which is handy.
CH, just be warned, I was in there 2 weeks ago for lunch and pretty much every ale was off apart from Doombar and a handful of seasonals they've been trying to empty since November. Rudolph's Arse all round, then :P
Cheers,
- Barry
Is the area marked or do we just hover around until a group starts to form? :-P
I was in on Saturday and there was a reasonable selection of beers on tap.

Youll just know... :-\
Usually 3 telltale signs: beards, rattly back packs and general shiftiness.
Tables should be marked as reserved for Belfast Homebrewers.

Good to hear. They can be quite thin early Jan. Last year they ran out of rice and poppadums for the curry club one lunchtime!
-Barry
Don't forget fellas passing around green bricks of ....hops.
Argh , sadly I'm not going to make tonight. An unexpected early start in the morning >:(
i'll be there.
Cracking evening boys, cheers for the feedback on the beers ☺
Super beers guys and even better than the last time.
Thankyou for your hospitality.
Really looking forward to Brewbot on 20th

nice to meet you all. now to work a recipe with the free hop barry brought
Yeah, lads. Great night. Excellent turnout and some cracking beers on show.
Great to see some new faces too. Hopefully we weren't that scarey >:D
Hopefully our non-Belfast club visitors learned something from our free-flowing, ah-hoc, from the hip, just jammin' wid it approach to the meets :P

Hah. Yeah, I have to try and figure out what do do with all this Carapils and Target :P
Cheers,

Good meet up lads. Beer of the night goes to the American Stout from Quiet_Man. Small bets made on how well it will score in the nationals.
Good to get down last night lads, thanks for the invite! Sorry i had to nip out early. Thomas was saying about still needing some stewards for brewbot on the 20th, I only live across the street from it and i'm available if yous need me.
Cheers

That's the one!
Sounds like Andy's medal will need an extra wide ribbon.... :P

Thanks Guys, looking forward to see how it scores.
Here Bazza - I didn't even get the chance to wear the gimp mask! Did you see how early everyone left? Spoilsports!
Wait a minute I thought you had it on already?
Nah. The thick skin is a product of self-preservation. You've seen Bazza's comments.
Dammit! Had to take mine out of my bag to make room for the Carapils! :P
Lads somebody was asking me at the meet about these things
Unscrew your existing barb fitting and measure as for example one of my regs was 1/2 male the other a 1/4

Hi all,
Delighted to have stumbled across this club. I've recently moved over from Edinburgh and was a keen member of a brewing club over there and have really missed it. Seems like I've just missed your first meeting of the year - when's the next one? I'm in the process of piecing together a new set up and would love to meet some knowledgable sorts to share the fruits with. ;-)
Cheers,
Neil
Hey Neil,
A belated welcome to the forum. Yeah, we've got a decent wee group up here now.
So, how long you been brewing? What were your preferred styles when you brewed in Edinburgh?
Hoping to have the next meet later this month but still haven't pinned down a date. Should probably get something sent out.
One thing to note: Brewbot (Ormeau Road) have expressed a keenness to start hosting out meets, though the night that suits them best is a Wednesday. So, that's where the next meet will hopefully be. All newcomers welcome!
Cheers,
-Barry
I'll second that Neil...welcomes. Hudson, Spoons and now Brewbot...I can't keep up lol
Welcome Neil!
Hello Neil! Hopefully see you at the next meet!
Hello, sorry, just logged on again and seen your message. Thanks for the welcome. Back in Edinburgh I was brewing mainly American Pale Ales though the last beer I brewed was a porter, which didn't impress. I got my new kit up and running a few weeks ago and just bottled the first batch on Sunday there (a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale clone). Alas, its bottle conditioned so won't be ready for Wednesday's meet - might bring a bottle or two down anyway. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it anyway but will try.
In Belfast today and gutted I can't stay over and make your first official meet in Brewbot. It's well up there as being one of the top three craft bars on the entire island.
Have fun lads.
Wouldn't want you scoping out our BrewCon APA ;)
See you soon fella!
