As I am less(!) pissed than last night  :- when this was posted I will comment:

Every time I see the Dambusters somat gets in behind me contact lenses and makes me eyes water!

Used to work in the factory that designed and built the Lancaster and I still have some of Roy Chadwicks original factory drawings.

Any ways, I assume there is an analogy in this thread between indiscriminate carpet bombing and precission targetting of (beer entries) targets.

Or am I still pissed??

T,is important to note that carpet bombing often doe,s not hit the target ;)

278 entries as of a few minutes ago. Just registered my few hopefully well aimed entries. It's my first National comp, kinda excited about it.

The entry number is different from the number of entries,

jeaus wept - its now 321
Title: Re: NHC 2016 Entries Update
Post by: nigel_c on January 20, 2016, 08:53:09 PM
Say if you had a beer entered and some how managed to drink it all and had to delete the entry, the entry number would still be counted even if the entry isn't.

Just an example. Not saying I polished off a keg of pale ale and forgot to bottle any.  ;)
Title: Re: NHC 2016 Entries Update
Post by: Partridge9 on January 20, 2016, 09:06:55 PM
So when that happens,

the entry number assigned goes up by one for the next entry

BUT

the total entries drops as you deleted an entry.

If you havent paid, its no a problem  ^-^

Title: NHC 2016 Entries Update
Post by: Leann ull on January 20, 2016, 11:43:51 PM
Must be getting close...

If memory serves last year there were 20 entries there that weren't paid for or were drunk before the comp.

As this is the first year we are applying a true cap there may be a small window for those on a reserve list which we can start in the next day or so.

If your entry isn't paid for by the closing date  it gets bumped out but at this stage we would urge you to pay for all your entries already, please double check your entry detail and that its marked paid.

In PayPal if you don't get pushed back to Entry screen your payment hasn't gone through.

Edit

VERY VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER NOTICE

This is a members only competition which means that your membership must be paid up and valid at the point of entry.
This has been done on an honesty basis up to this point, in the next few days cross checks will made between entrant and members list.
Your entry will be removed if you are not a paid up member of the NHC.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but the competition is being run with nominal central funding for the benefit of the members.

Will it be possible to change category on our entries later? It's locked out at the moment and I might have to make a few tweaks once I've had a final tasting of my entries.

I'm sure you appreciate,  the admin team aren't in a position to facilitate changing entries after submission (of course entrants are free to update their own entries)

Yeah I tried but the dropdown only shows the entry category that you already put in, rather than listing all of the options.
If it's admin overhead to change the system, of course don't bother. I just have one or two entries that are borderline and might fit better into another category once I've tasted it again.

That's such a pity. I believe that the version of the software we were using last year allowed entrants to change the style without affecting the entry number etc.  :(

A potential opportunity may happen as we ask for payment for current entries and folks decide for whatever reason they don't want to complete process and delete entry.

How will that actually work?

If people haven't paid by closing date, will there be "second chance"/standby slots opened up?
Or is it possible that we'd end up with less than 400 after the non-payers get processed out on the 31st?

Ladies and Gents,

Firstly, many thanks for those that have entered in the 2016 National Brewing Championships.

We hit out limit of 400 beers earlier today with over 100 entries in the past 24 hours.
As we hit this 10 days in advance of close, a number of brewers who intended entering have missed out.
In order to assess the extent of missed entries, could any brewer who missed out please PM me directly?
We are not promising anything, but will see what can be done to accommodate as many members as we can.

The single biggest factor in making this event run smoothly is the number of bodies that present for service, Judges or Stewards and coordinators.
If you can at all, please put your name down for service as this gives us greater flexibility, makes the day run a lot more smoothly and allows us to expand he competition to accommodate more entries and entrants.

Many thanks,
John

Just a point to note:

When you enter a special that requires you to fill in the 50 character box, when you try to edit the entry this data is not available!

Re: the Firefox printing:

The labels open up as a 1 page doc. If you just print then you get page 1!

The labels themselves are on page 2 or even page 3 if theres a big page one.

So to just print the labels use the page range box and print 3 - 3. If you get an error then theres no page 3 so print range 2 - 2

If you want all the document then print 1 - 3 or 1 - 2

Hope this helps.

Btw: Can't find on Foxy: Edit-> Print !

You print the labels, there will be 4 of them. You only need two.

Cut out two labels and use a couple of elastic bands to secure to the two bottles. I like to use two bands per bottle.

Note to any any one putting bottles(with lastic bands) into and out of fitted crates or cardboard wine boxes:

If not careful then the lastic band will roll off and the label WILL fall off and maybe get lost!

Oops, I dropped my entries off with labels attached but didn't realise the recipe sheets were also required. Would it be ok if I put them in a plastic sleeve and drop them off at the drop point? They don't need to be physically attached to the bottles like the labels do right?

The first page in the entry form goes in beside the bottles.

This you can keep we only need a bottle label on the bottle securely attached with a couple of elastic bands per bottle

Lads,
Just one more question. Yesterday we had discussion about mead and corks. Can I use standard not-labeled wine corks, not a bottle caps?

We're at capacity of 400.
Thanks to anyone who pulled a few of their weaker beers to allow latecomers in.
It affords greater competition and will improve the standard overall.
