Hi guys,
Just wanted to start a thread to track our assessments of the Slovenian hops from GEB.
In all the frenzied flurry of white bags being passed around last night, in scenes reminiscent of Goodfellas, I forgot to dig a pen out and note who took what, so I've started a grid below, if you could add your name in the appropriate spaces (just write your name over the text 'hop#1' or 'hop#2' to try and maintain the table structure).
Hop Variety | 50g Bag#1 | 50g Bag#2 |
Styrian Aurora | Aurora#11 | Aurora#2 |
Styrian Goldings Celia | Bazza (TBC) | Celia#2 |
Savinjski Goldings | Savinjski#1 | Savinjski#2 |
Styrian Bobek | Bazza | Bobek#2 |
Styrian Dana | Dana#1 | Dana#2 |
Styrian Cardinal | Cardinal#1 | Cardinal#2 |
Styrian Eureka | Eureka#1 | Eureka#2 |
Styrian Wolf | Wolf#1 | Wolf#2 |
Styrian Cascade | Cascade#1 | Cascade#2 |
Remember; GEB aren't looking for some huge wordy Dickens-esque description of the hops; a sentence or two just noting how you used it, aroma, taste and overall impression will be grand.
As homeworks go, it's not the worst :)
Cheers,
-Barry

Yes, yes ye should :D
Sounds good, plenty of time to get a club tasting beforehand as well
Great stuff, have confirmed the date with the Old Boro, and just registered with BJCP.
The main comp. thread is now here:

BTW: Really wish I was up there on Saturday - hope all goes well - which I am sure it will
Cheers

Great idea for a comp! Wish we'd thought of it!! ;D
The Great Quintessential Slovenian Ales Competition ;)
The comp is now open for registration
Entry form is now live! Good luck everyone.
http://bit.ly/1UIqnqQ
When you enter, you should get an e-mail with your entry number and also bottle labels to attach to your entries. These can be given in to your local club and will then find their way to the North County.
If you have any issues, just let us know.
Good stuff Will! Need to decide what hops I'm using first before filling out the form!!
There has been a lot of discussion about the eventual category of these beers on the comp forum!
As these are experimental brews we will certainly allow categorys to be changed after the beer is registered and then brewed and tasted.
A lot of re-catting went on afore the nationals!
We just need a rough idea of cats and numbers so we can forward plan!
I'm the Belfast drop point for Jebb's competition so PM me:

Cheers,

Any more Belfast folks for Jebb's competition?
So far we have:
1. Sub82
2. Robotmonkey
3. Bazza
Need all entries by end of week so PM me to arrange drops.
Also, please remember to post reviews/comments/observations on the hops you've used.
Cheers,
- Barry
Sorry, I'm out. Went to lift my entry and there's only one bottle left :-(
1. Sub82
2. Bazza
Tony, Just get the one bottle over to Barry. Cider Head is picking up from him tomorrow.
We will make sure there's enough for BOS if you get through!
As ye will be using Sterling Fivers, just 2 will cover the 2.5 entries!!
Hi All,
This is a final call for any Belfast members wishing to enter the comp. The NHC express (CH) will be collecting the Belfast entries from me tomorrow so, after that, you'll have to get it down to Will by some other means.
Cheers,
-Barry
Whats the score with the actual reviews on these ?
Ryan. A simple 2 or 3 sentence review on this thread would suffice. We'll make sure the feedback gets back to GEB, be it favourable or otherwise.
Cheers,
- Barry
Good aroma from all three (dana, cardinal & cascade)in the bag. pellets where rather powdery, quite possibly from the vac machine drawing to much pressure. I knocked out a 5.5% pale ale as within spec to bjcp guideline with s05 Initial tasting had me a little worried however after week 2 everything really came around, pretty good aroma, nice fruity tropical flavours, sneaked a few in for tasting with the groom party in the hotel the night before my brothers wedding over the weekend and all nice feedback with requests for home deliverys for further sampling.
cheers again for free hops. no complaints
