Title: Co2 Tank Source?
Post by: MrChalky on November 06, 2012, 04:13:38 PM
I'm looking to get a Co2 tank for a kegerator, I called D&D, but they told me they have the cylinders, but are out of valves, and don't know when they'll get them in.

Does anyone know anywhere else to get Co2? Preferably around Dublin/Meath/Louth

I bought an fire extinguisher from them nearly an year ago and asked them to remove inner tube. Working like a charm since then and costs me 25e or 30e.

I might just drop into them on Friday and see if there's anything they can do for me

+1 - change your search criteria to be a co2 fire extinguisher.

Make sure you get the tube taken out - D&D will do this for you. Otherwise you get lquid co2 in your regulator - and that causes it to freeze - which isnt good.

(the co2 at the bottom is condensed. And the tube means you get the stuff from the bottom of the cylinder - Good news if you want to put out a fire, bad news for your regulator)

AJ edge in bray. €10 for a refill. Asked for cost of a tank last time and guy said he would give me an old fire extinguisher with a tap for €25 or 30 I think. Your mileage may vary.

I couldn't make it out to either D&D or AJ Edge today. Couldn't get AJ Edge on the phone either. Does anyone know if either are open on a Saturday?

Alternatively turn them upside down and they won't damage the reg. :)

I've got a couple of empty pub CO2 tanks (5/6 kg) will sell for €35 each. Also mixed (50%CO2 / 50% nitrogen) same size same price. CO2 tanks have a male fitting , mixed tanks have a female fitting .

Toucan, I would definitely be interested in taking one of them, CO2 preferred at this stage. :P Do you have pics or history?
I'm in Dublin so would need to put my name on one, arrange payment, and leave the rest to the NHC express  :)

Sorry lads got held up in work so no pics today.
Not shure what you mean by history Kevin, But the tanks came out of a working mans club in Dublin that I was contracted to clear out. I'm happy with the tanks and will give a full refund if you're not.

Thats what I was looking for Tucan, wanted to know they had an active life and weren't lying in a ditch for a few years ... :-[
What height (in inches) are they? Reason I'm asking is to see if one will fit into my newly acquired fridge, but I'm definitely interested in putting my name on one anyway.
Thanks Tucan, cheers!

Hi Guys,

Can someone tell me why you put the CO2 cylinder inside the fridge? Does it make any difference or just take up room?
Thanks,
Euge

Convenience usually. And so you don't have to drill another hole in the fridge. I'm not planning on putting it in the fridge. It'll last longer outside it as the cold will lower the pressure meaning you'll use more

QuoteThe homebrew stuff is starting to take over the kitchen so for me it's as much about damage limitation, i.e. to keep below the nag threshold! ;)

Ok even tho I haven't finalised the logistics I've put one aside for
1. Rymus
2. MrChalky
3. IsMise
Will hold one until I hear from Cathal O D ( will need to know before Friday).
That still leaves one up for grabs if anyone is interested .

Tucan,
I am interested in a CO2 cylinder if there is one left. What's the pressure re-test date?

I've no idea what the re-test date is but if you want to get it tested that's fine,if it fails I will refund your purchase price.

Hi Tucan,

Really sorry to say I am pulling out of this,  :(, got a smaller CO2 extinguisher from D&D, fits snugly into my proposed kegerator set-up, but I think there's still a lot of interest for someone else to take my place on the offer. Thanks again for putting me on the list. Talk to you soon,

Is Mise,

I dropped my tank into Seahorse Aquariums (www.seahorseaquariums.com) to be filled.

€20 up to 5kg, €30 over 5kg.
They send it off to be filled and have it back for you in a couple of days

I was looking at D&D and AJ Edge, but D&D are only open during the week and I couldn't make it out then, and AJ Edge are a bit too far away from me (and wouldn't answer their phone when I called about opening times)

Has anyone seen a handy option for mixed gas? I'd be looking for a small cylinder (i'm using sodastream ones for co2 atm, handy for fitting in the fridge) and somewhere to get refills. Any thoughts?

Thanks, i popped off a tweet to them. Something paint ball tank size would be perfect but i havent seen anything that small for mixed gas, fingers crossed.

AJ Edge are not slick by any stretch of the imagination, organised chaos, but cheap :)
