An Post have launched an alternative to Parcel Motel called AddressPal (https://addresspal.anpost.ie/). Seems to work the same way, pay UK postage rates and they will deliver it to your local post office.
Cost is €3.50 per item.
I think the one good thing they have over the others is a mainland UK address.

Rarely been an issue when I've used it, seems that's the only positve thing.
Looking at rules/regs:
- €50!! if oversized (Max size 72cm X 31cm X 25cm / Max weight 20kg) vs €7 Parcel Motel
- Usually be delivered within 3 working days, Parcel Motel usually 24 hr from receipt in NI
- Can only collect from Post Office, limited to office hours, not open after Sat lunchtime
- Have to pay cash/debit card on collection, can't use PayPal/Credit Card
- Need to bring special AddressPal card & ID when collecting
Wished it was better alternative, always looking for cheaper options ;)
The limited hours for collecting is a problem. I am going to stick with parcel motel.
As usual, a great idea ruined by bad implementation. The best thing about Parcel Motel is picking up something at any hour from the local depot with no queueing or messing.
I'm glad there's another alternative to parcel motel.
The 1 time i sent by PM it never arrived.
The 1 time i received by PM it was damaged.
An post just did a mail shot for a parcel box.
E65, stick out on your wall - small parcels deliver here.
there is also parcel wizard from dpd. same as parcel motel but delivers to your house. you can flag days you dont want them to deliver too.

Agreed, well handy but the the real seller that anpost could/should capitalise on is that they have a mainland UK address which greatly improves access to UK retailers. Real pity about the collection hours/ID shenanigans.
To say nowt about the oversize penalty €50 ffs!. PM just double the charge.
I ordered a vac packer and bags from the UK. No problem that they would be too big. However the 'fekkers used a massive box that was way too big. The vac machine and bags took up say 25% of the space!
I would not have been happy if I had to shell out 50 whackers to AnPost!!
the usual shite from An Post, i was genuinely excited when i read their blurb, being a parcel motel customer since day 1 and not having a problem other than a mainland UK address for some sellers I thought this was the answer but no, absolutely crazy implementation of a simple concept
To queue in my already understaffed post office and remember to bring my Addresspal id card and my passport and my 3.5 fee with me is just a joke compared to the 24 hour pay in advance service offered by others
No point making a new post for this, but they've started a us delivery service. Prices from €16 to 54 for up to 20kg , handy for a few things that wouldn't ship to Ireland, but it will be interesting to see how the customs side works out.
Now that is very interesting.
Customs would be interesting alright. An Post didn't have the same sort of arrangement as the likes of DHL (whereby the charged you a fee to collect the customs fees from you) as far as I know.
Who's going to be the first Yakima Hops guinea pig?:) Would be a bit cheaper than what they are charging for international shipping currently.
Next BYO back issue sale might be a good time to make use of this.
