Title: Hop String
Post by: ronniedeb on March 03, 2016, 11:33:50 AM
Anyone know where to buy hop string in Ireland? Usually Coco Coir of a thick grade. I used some standard garden twine last year and the twine rotted in the wet summer, collapsing the bines before the cones could ripen. Need something heavier duty for this year. UK suppliers that I've found want to charge a fortune for delivery.

I got some "natural twine" from my local co-op in Ashford. It's specifically for tying plants etc. I left the bines up after I harvested them last autumn and only now (a year later) one of them has broken. I think you can get the same stuff in Woodies. It's only 3 or 4 quid for a few miles of the stuff

Let me know if you find anywhere else that does the stuff.  I'm also looking around but up North.  Same thing happened to my four hop plants two years ago.  Wont be growing them again until next Feb/March with moving house but I've been looking out for descent twine in the meantime and still haven't seen any.

You want good 3 or 5-ply jute/hemp/sisal twine:
