Title: New bottles. Is cleaning and sterilising necessary?

Hi there,
Just buying a new batch of bottles and was wondering is both cleaning & sterilising necessary? Or could one get away with just sterilising them?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I'd advise a going over with a bottle brush and hot soapy water. Even if new you can still get dust etc. in them.

New bottles I give a swill out in water and then sanitise.
They are not produced or packed in a sterile environment so if you want the sweat of some big hairy vested unshaven (insert nationality of your worst nightmare) who doesn't wash his hands, in your beer, don't sterilise

Rinse and sterilise. That's what the commercial brewers :). They don't have duff bottles of don't they :P
