Just a cross post reminder:
Entry form is now live! Good luck everyone.
http://bit.ly/1UIqnqQ
When you enter, you should get an e-mail with your entry number and also bottle labels to attach to your entries. These can be given in to your local club and will then find their way to the North County.
If you have any issues, just let us know.
So the comp is getting nearer.
To date we have 15 or so entries. I would expect maybe 24 or so at max.
The judge registration etc starts at 9:30 and would hope to be finished by about12:30
There is then the craft day outside in aid of Spoons' chosen charity LauraLynn. We will have some beers and ciders for tasting.
So this is a call for judges and stewards.
I will act as organiser so no judging for me!

So note to future event organisers:
Forget Sundays!!
I can judge if its easier than getting someone else? It'll mean the sheets are going to delayed but happy to help out either way
Would there be a list of the hops that were made available for the comp? I'd like to do a bit of homework before the day of judging.

The hops are listed at the start of this thread http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,14921.0.html (http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,14921.0.html)
Folks - I have a drop point. I am available for drops from this Thursday and from Sunday onwards.
Simply PM me, I am near Malahide Train station.
Thanks to all for helping out with this.
Just to confirm that I have entries from BrianC, Fobster and my own all paid for.
Dan from the WeeCounty is going to drop their 3 entries on Sunday. I will talk to hime when I know more

Great stuff. I've updated the spreadsheet to show where bottles are located. Since you have all the Wee County entries coming to you, that just means we're left with North County to collect and all sorted. We'll get it done over the next few days. You relax!
North County - get your bottles ready and to James, Nigel or myself.
It looks like there aren't many entries from Capital, so I'll just be dropping my own to Nigel on Thursday evening.
Question. I'm entering the beer in the 20B - American Stout Category, but the hops aren't very "american" in character, the beer doesn't really fit in any other - it's a hopped up stout, it's like a Slovakian American Stout I suppose. Should I actually write something on my entry labels?

Great thanks for checking.
That's par for the course considering the nature of the hops I'd say. We know none of them are going to be American, so we'll account for it in the judging of any of the "american" styles. The american IPA's entered will have the same issues and again, we'll be looking for hallmarks of a good IPA, rather than having to have exactly the right cirtus/pine flavour that's in the guidelines.
In the end of the day, a good beer will stand out as a good beer and will come out well in the BOS.
Great reply thanks.
Sounds fair enough.
Ok I know I am in the back seat now but an update:
Looks like we can have 3 tables (for 8 beers or so) (Looks like we are down 1 Louth entry and 1 Belfast)
So say 6 beers into BOS unless there's a tie for second!
Judges:
1. Molc

I will try to set up the craft bar (coolers/taps/etc).
@James: Have we got the 3 medals yet?
you'll only need 1 steward but put me down

I have the medals
I also have most of the entries
I have pencils and all the jazz.
Looking good.
me and Pob collecting you and the Prof early Sunday after dawn prayers?
Them be, to the Gods of Infection & Off Flavour Free Beer.
I think James is collecting Nigel and Molc.
Had chat with James tonight and here are some key points:
Molc to sort out 3 flights and check with CH and just allocate entry numbers to flights.
James' entries (4 crates) delivered to Boro on Saturday.
All logistic requirements for Sunday Comp and the Craft gig will be in my Renault ( like plastic cups, pencils paper, beer cooler, gas and taps etc ) and parked up overnight in the Boro.
For the craft gig if any one wants to drop a corny off, Saturday is the day to do it!
Yup James is picking Nigel and myself at 9am and we'll get on site, get the bottles labeled quickly and into order, then get the flights going.
It may be possible to get the labels and picking sheets done in advance of Saturday for James, as he has all the bottles.
CH is bringing 3 entries on the day as well as POB's (and even POB himself)
We can get the bulk done on Saturday. By my reckonning we have 19 entries!
One of the feedback from many of the judges regarding the hops is they are much more suitable for english bitters, ESB's and IPA's rather than American. There was a big hit of orange and lemon off a lot of the beers. Where the beer also had an english malt bill balance, they would have been cracking in that style rather than American.
If I was going to do an english beer, I'd def pick up some wolf, maybe cardinal or eureka, possibly with a light hand, as they seem to be quite potent.
Would have to agree with what Colm said. There was a lot of entries to the American pale ale cat that really were more English. We could have been a lot harsher with the scoring.
I also found the hops to lean towards the English ale profile then the in your face American citrusy kind.
Based on the beers I tasted American/NZ Aroma they ain't :(.
Now that the dust has settled on JEBB, I'm hoping that the NCBers have kept their judging hats for the Wee vs. Royal comp on August 27th. The plan is to have the judging on site at BrĂș brewery with a tour of their new 65Hl setup.
Sounds good to me.
Dan,
Sure we can all pitch in.
Do you want me to register it as a BJCP comp? (If I register I get the BJCP discount !!)
A registered Bjcp competition is actually about the "conduct" of the competition - its NOT about styles!
Registering it would be great as we could get judging points for the day. Gotta catch em all ;)
That would be great Will, how much does that come in at?
Its $30 (not counting the discount which I can't remember!)
But no more!
If both clubs agree just send me the info about the comp:
Date
Entry Deadline
Name of Competion
City where comp is heald (Trim)
Entry Fee
Make sure you come up with a clear name for the competition first ;)
