Title: Kegging coopers larger
Post by: galway on May 09, 2016, 07:18:39 PM
Hi
New here and have a coopers larger kit brewing and am going to try kegging it.
Do I have to rack it to another fermenter and prime it before I add to the corny or do I leave it in the 1st fermenter until it clears .all advice greatly appreciated!

Keg is just a big bottle, so just rack as you usually would. Only difference is to use half the priming sugar, as there is less headspace.

Thanks for reply.will there be a lot of sediment in bottom of keg that will transfer to glass?do I wait a few weeks before force carbonating  with gas or will the priming sugar be enough?
Thanks again

If sentiment is a worry, just transfer from primary after about 3 weeks and force carb. Also if you crash chill after primary and fine with gelatin, you'll have very little crud transferred.

That kit clears well on its own. If you can stick it in a fridge for a couple of weeks after fermentation has finished it should be pretty clear.
Open the tap into a glass and let the first half pint or so blast any sediment from the tap, then transfer the rest directly to the keg and force carbonate

I won't have room in the fridge but I will try fining it and see how I get on.this is only my second brew but I have invested in keg and accessories  as bottling first brew was not the nicest job so next it will be a fridge specifically for it .thanks
