Title: Sparge water heater for Grainfather
Post by: marlyman on May 22, 2016, 08:37:13 AM
Lads

I'm looking for an off the shelf, cheap, sparge water heater. What's the norm her under 100.

I bought an induction heater on ebay and used a pot I had lying around. I was using it for BIAB but its only for sparge water now I moved to the GF

I'm using a Peco boiler, which I used for BIAB before my beautiful Grainfather.

I'm sure that I saw burco boilers in Musgraves lately, I think the smallest size was €80 something plus vat. I'm also sure the larger size 30L were  a bit over €100 + vat. Sorry for being vague, they caught my eye as I passed and I only had a quick look.

Hi lads.

Thanks for the responses. I have a burco but I cannot control the temperatures.  Does the sparge water have to be at 75 degrees exactly?

I did my forest brew at the weekend.  All went well except I only ended up with below 20 litres.  Calc were from grainfather websiTe
Grain bill 5kg
17 litres for mashing.
15 for sparing
27 was pre boil
60 minute boil

Where did it go wrong? There was a lot left in the bottom I couldn't pump out. Ie the filter was half covered in wort.

Mmm dunno. I always do 19 litre batches get at least 23L pre boil. Little left at the bottom

I tip the Gf towards the pump and if necessary minimally scrape the filter to get the last couple of litres out. I don't care about trub going in. Try to leave hop matter behind
