Whirlpool or spin your wort and you get a nice pile in the middle after 20 mins, then if  you really want to avoid trub a pipe an inch off the floor would achieve same effect chuck the first 500ml.
I've added 30 mins to my brewday to allow wort to settle and it's made a big difference to what comes out of boiler. It's not lost time I'm just cleaning other stuff.
Lots of articles I've read that a small amount of trub actually benefits beer fermentation?

+1 on what CH says here. Filters do not work and only end up being a bitch to clean. That item is a good looking piece of kit and will help with holding back the trub.

Hop spider and never think about hop break again. I pump the hot and cold break through my plate chiller and all seems to work well. Put in center diptubes recently as didn't see the point in leaving anything behind.

I have one of these with my SS pot. They work pretty well even with a lot of hops.

Im not having a big issue as I use a hop spider and the pick up pipe leaves 3 liters behind.

But this little bit of design looks like a winner and would improve things more.

But they only sell them with a pot unfortunately..   I bet they could be copied and sold on.

Are you boiling with gas or electric, just wondering will the kettle element have a negative impact on the whirlpool

Electric 2 elements I inverted them as I felt the same but they are far enough off the floor that it makes no difference have a look at my various "show us your trub" pics in another thread
