Title: New one on me
Post by: Pheeel on June 17, 2016, 03:00:22 PM
Friend of mine posted he'd gone to a place called Howling Hops in London (looks as London hipster as it gets). They say they serve straight from the tank. I had assumed via a separate tap but from pictures it seems to literally have a serving tap out the side of the tank. I assume they have some kind of dip tube otherwise that's a lot of wasted beer :)

I've never see that before. Has anyone else?

Yeh but it's a modified bright. I've not seen one with regular taps

Unless it's all for show and the lines run through the tanks to a serving keg.

Saw the same idea in Chamonix, Mont Blanc. May be difficult here because of excise regulations, bonded warehousing etc.

I got talking to the owner of the bar in Chamonix (a Canadian) and told him about our excise laws and he laughed . . . . no such restrictions in France it seems.

Yeh well the laws over here need to change. No reason places like this shouldn't exist here (maybe with less hipsters though ☺ )

The more I look at that picture the more annoyed I get. Nothing to do with our licensing laws but with the unacceptably high proportion of man-buns per square yard.

Haha so true! Where are all the fat beardy guys?

I find it funny that the design is very stylish and minimal but they seem to have their grain storage just in sight to emphasise the point that "we really do make the beer here". Actually I'd say those bags are full of skinny jeans and moustache combs!  :D

Fran Well has tanks behind the bar. Not sure what they do though.

I was there a few months ago. You head to the loo past those grain bags, going past the fermentation tanks. Beer was only OK - pilsner was cack. Crate bar is next door and much better - and cheaper IIRC

And for dispensing wine...
I bought a gallon of 4* this morning and not a sign anywhere about drink responsibly, although there was a problem with me drinking directly from the tap.
