Title: Very low final gravity
Post by: banjobrew on July 08, 2016, 05:58:50 PM
So I've just kegged an APA and the FG is 1.004 after two weeks at 19C.

The OG was 1.043 and fermented with US-05.

No simple sugars were used.

At 20C when I took a reading the hydrometer temperature correction is negligible.

Unfortunately I don't have another hydrometer to compare so assuming this is correct what would cause this unusually low gravity?

Thanks!

Temperature of your mash?
What was target OG?
Does it taste uber dry?

It's extract with speciality grains.

Target OG was 1.010.

No, not particularly dry.

Sounds like it's the hydrometer, doesn't it?

FG... I had started drinking at that stage.

It's not like champagne dry.

Hydrometer test on water is spot on.

So it does taste quite dry now that it's cooked and carbonated. The only thing I changed compared to similar brews is adding DME after the boil. Unless I steeped my grains too hot or cold?
