Title: GMO free malted barley/wheat sold/produced in Ireland
Post by: Shanna on July 25, 2016, 01:22:51 PM
Hi there,

Based on a conversation I had with a member of the public on Saturday at the Dublin maker fair can anybody confirm or deny whether the malted barley/wheat sold/produced here is GMO free?

Its all GMO free as licences haven't been issued yet but extensive trials going on still on potato crop. Think its only a matter of time.
Counties Cavan, Clare, Fermanagh, Kerry, Kildare, Meath, Monaghan, Roscommon and Westmeath have declared themselves 100% GMO free but how can you if 1 crop is planted on a border :-(, They are not the main barley counties in any case.
Minch launched an organic Malt there a couple of weeks back but can't see much call for it in from the breweries considering its cost, possibly at the likes of N17?.
