Title: 21 litre or 33 litre stockpot
Post by: MarkP on July 27, 2016, 12:02:57 PM
Hi Guys, looking for a bit of help in ordering my stockpot,
I wanna start doing BIAB on the stove but I want to brew half batchs, about 2.5 to 3 gallons in the fermenter,
So with water for boil off rate, grain absorption and displacement when the bag of grain is added to the pot, would it be cutting it tight using the 21l pot?

Thanks guys

Get the bigger one if you can. Always better to have the extra volume and not need it than need it and not have it.

100% this - if like many, you will get the urge to upgrade at one point or another.

33L is too small ;)
Normally you start with 28L boil down to 23ish another 2-3 lost to trub and primary and your back to 20.
If you fancy wheat beers they are prone to boilovers so a reason for having a bigger pot, not practical in a flat though.

Another perspective. If you're doing half batches you may as well go with the 21L pot. When you do decide to upgrade you can use your 21L pot to heat up your sparge water... :)
