Title: Smaller Fermenter
Post by: Will on August 01, 2016, 04:43:10 PM
Hi folks,

I've recently acquired a fridge for fermentation however my standard 33 litre fermenting bucket is marginally too wide to fit.

It just about fits height - wise with room for a heating tube.

I'm happy to drop to a 25 litre bucket but are these narrower as well as shorter? Or can anybody recommend a narrower bucket which is no taller than the 33 litre buckets?

Hope that makes sense!

Are you feeling in that container? I'm assuming that's not a food grade plastic...

Thanks mrmeindl but I would probably prefer to stick with the traditional style fermenters - I'd feel pretty uneasy using a storage box for fermenting even if it is food grade. I know that sounds totally irrational but hey. I use those boxes to store stuff in the garage.

Could you not cut a bucket down to size? A really sharp blade and a steady hand will give a nice clean cut. Just trim it down till it fits. Worst case, buckets are pretty cheep to replace.

The Young's buckets are narrower and taller than the Standard 33L fermenters, I'd say a 25L Youngs fermenter would work for you.

there's a 30 and a 20L here that are more reasonably priced if you wanted to check them out

Will, I have a wide range of different fermenters if you want to take a few home to try them.

Happy days Thomas. I've dropped Shane at HBC a message as I've to put in an order soon anyway. Temp control is within sight!!
