commercial whey alcohol was developed in Ireland.

There is a good write up here.  (http://www.liquidirish.com/2012/05/whey-alcohol.html)

Cheers for that
I always knew carberry were making alcohol but I never knew they developed the process first day .

I do know that what drove the development of the process was environmental protection laws making the spreading of Whey on
lands illegal ( so they had to either treat it as waste or find some use for it )

I have a bottle at home.

I drink a lot of gin, my standard is Tanqueray export @43%, the gunpowder isn't all that to be honest....very subtle in flavour compared to a tanqueray. It was really nice with the Poachers tonic, but then the Poachers is excellent anyway.
I don't think it's worth the price myself.
