(not as dirty as it sounds!)
Thinking of installing a valve in kettle. And am looking for a dip tube. I also need to pick up some ½" straight nipples, along with lock nuts, barbs, etc.
Haven't found a supplier that stocks all the fittings yet (eg homebrewcompany has the nipples but not the tube, brewbuilder has a tube but not the other bits. And I want to avoid paying postage for each bit) .
Any suggestions?
(would like a dip tube that bends back close to the wall of the vessel, if I can)
Hi Stev, dip tube or sight glass?
Brewbuilder has sight glass kits if that's what your looking for
Brewbuilder has all the bits just not listed on his site, mail him postage is mad tho.
Best pick up is a piece of 1/2" corrugated stainless that bends available in woodies and you can shape or grind it to whatever shape you want or find a mate with a pipebender and do it in copper
The Nipples are for a sight glass alright . Have the ss elbows and a perspex tube already squirreled away.
Got my element from brewbuilder, don't know why I didn't get a dip tube at the time.
Could use a ss elbow instead of a dip tube (or 2 joined together I suppose - but cleaning could be a hassle)
Saw where folks here had used the bendable ss hose from woodies but it was gathering sludge, so replaced it
don't put your sight glass on your exit tap causes all sorts of problems with readings.
sludge?
its this stuff http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,14901.msg139848.html#msg139848
its the easiest solution if you don't want to get into pipe bending, my advice is always pick up from just at the side wall the side using a whirlpool if you can, all the heavy pellet or hop will rest in the middle and there is no bazooka or screen I have seen or used yet that will stop it all blocking or coming into your dip tube.
Thanks CH.
Glad you mentioned the the warning about using a common valve and sight glass vessel connection. Was in the plans.
Sludge was the wrong word. The poster mentioned that the flexible ss tube collected trub and was tricky to clean.
Darren will let us know?
I have no problem cleaning the tube a quick rinse and its done. You can also get a bottlong brush in there. I use it for a whilpool arm and it works a treat.
This the flexible tubing?
Thats the one. Brewbuilder has a nice pickup tube as well

I know- and I bought my element of them only a few weeks ago and why I didn't throw the dip tube into the order...
I hear ya, been there
Hi Slev
Heres another dip tube

Thanks Darren. Spotted that one. That whole anvil line seems on the pricey side.
