I'm interested in other members here who play guitar, or indeed any instrument which can be rocked ;)
I started playing in school when I was around 15 and played for a few years, then gave up for a long time and then took it up about 6-7 years ago again in earnest.
I got myself a Crafter Jumbo acoustic with the intention sometime of maybe learning some bluegrass, that has not yet happened, but I really like my Jumbo anyway.

A while later my brother told me he needed some cash so his Fender Telecaster American Vintage '52 reissue was up for sale for €1000 so I bought it, man it's a beauty.

I also got myself a lovely little 5W Epiphone valve amp, great buy second hand at €100, it also has the J1 mod done to it, but I'm thinking of reversing it as I like the muddy overdrive sound that it was modified to clean up.

Anyone else got any nice machines to show off? I did a search for other guitar threads and noticed only one where Shane was talking about his new flying V, which never was :) apart from that I saw no threads, so show us your guitars.
Nice!
I play now and again - havent played in a while dont think i can remember the chords to any songs anymore.
My guitar is a acoustic solutions or some shit like that - not worth showing tbh :P

To be honest I'm as interested in outing players as I am the guitars :) but a bit of eye candy is always nice.
QuoteNice. Major respect for the Tele even though I'm not a fan of the sound from them single coil Fender pick-ups.
I have no pics, but I have a 70s Harmony Les Paul copy that's in bits (it was a really nice guitar too), an Epiphone Les Paul alike to replace it, complete with EMG 81/85 pick-ups from the Harmony waiting to go in. There's an acoustic in the house somewhere too, I dunno where it is and I can't remember the make, but it's a €200 guitar so nothing special. I also have a Hohner headless bass, which is a really nice Steinberger licensed model, and is great quality.
I loved that bass when I was a bass player years ago, I'd love to have had one, I presume you mean the rectangular black jobbie?
QuoteI think this is the exact model
(http://www.basscentre.com/user/products/large/hohner-b2a.jpg)
Yep that's her, beautiful machine alright.
The Tele is savage, you might not like the pickups, but it's an icon and the beauty of them is that once you own one, you start to hear the sound all over classic music. It's a legendary machine.
http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Les-Paul-Axcess-Standard/Features.aspx
It appears you can get a Floyd Rose tailpiece, but EMG pickups don't appear to be standard on that model, but they're not standard Les Paul Pickups either.
QuoteDoesn't sound too shabby

If that's your bag, not mine at all. I'm a big fan of the Les Paul and this isn't really a Les Paul :)
I had the privilege of playing a friends '54 Les Paul years ago and that spoiled me with regards to them.
QuoteVery much my bag! Big fan of this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIN3Yta97vE), who uses EMG 81/85 pickups. In fact I'd say they sell two thirds of what they sell because of him, and Gibson can thank him too!
Metal is not my thing at all, Rory Gallagher and the Stones are more my thing, listen to a lot of them.
My all time favourite band, not a guitar band, is Talking Heads, amazing band.
Nice thread! I might be able to setup a music and homebrew event at some stage in the future!

Wow brenmurph, your wife must really love you ;D. Do you play when you come back from the pub.

A cover version of Pink Floyd - Fearless
http://soundcloud.com/eoin-magrath/fearless-cover-at-tyrrelstown
I've only learned this three days ago, so the singing could still do with some work, as could the guitar. Tis alright for a bit of messing about in the lounge.
It's played on the acoustic which is tuned ggdgbb for anyone who is interested.
Jesus me ears!!

Good job there.. Great song! Think it's the Kop stand at the beginning/end before a Pool match on the recorded track! What are the chances of a Homebrew competition / meet with music from the same brewers!? I'd be up for it. No pics to upload atm, but i've a Gibson SG Special - my baby - had it since I was 16 :) (lol..am only 24 now, but i saved up for ages for it!)
Thinking of changing out the pickups for something from Seymour Duncan... Opinions?

I've never wanted an electric guitar before I played this telecaster, I really play mostly acoustic, but once I played this tele, I had to have it. I bought it off my brother when he was tight for cash, I reckon the price can only increase as time goes on.
I like Gibson, but they're so not my thing when it comes to actually playing, that said I would not refuse a Les Paul or an SG for that matter, but I don't think I'd play it as much as I play my tele, simply because the tele is so versatile soundwise.
Basically I'd have no opinions on pickup upgrades, cos it sounds like you're into metal and you'd be better off chatting to Shane (Tube) he'd be the man for those sounds you're looking for :)

Yea - a guitar can do that to you alright - have to have it kinda feeling! I've always been partial to a bit of Tele action, but haven't got the funds to part with just yet. I do love the single coil for some blues and rhythm playing - it just stands out so well, such definition and clarity, but with a great measure of warmth too. The humbucker's on my SG are great for lots of things, but just slightly too meaty at times.
You're right - you got a great bargain with that guitar, it will only increase..and the finish on it is superb..really love seeing the natural grain - no need for lacquer with wood that nice.
What draws me to the SG in terms of playability is the neck scale length and access. The neck is incredibly easy to play - it's just the right size for my hands, and it's also very comfortable. That and the weight, or rather, lack of.. I've played many a Les Paul and ended up with a sore back and shoulders.. Can't imagine what it'd be like after playing it for a few hours of a set. Nevertheless, a classic rock / blues tone, and its one of the best selling guitars for a reason - it looks and sounds great.
No, i'm not particularly into metal tbh. I was more so putting the question out about the pickups in the hope that someone had a recommendation based on their own experience :) I also play a lot of acoustic, quite a bit of alternate picking stuff. I really enjoy different style blues, delta, traditional too. Play some jazz fingerstyle as well. I like playing the lyrical melody on the guitar - like transcribing it. I'm lead guitarist in the band im in though, so not too much acoustic there - I do like to rock out a lot! But I listen to a lot of different music - Hendrix, Led Zep, AC/DC, Soundgarden, Leo Kottke, Marvin Gaye, Nuno Bettencourt, John Martyn, quite a bit of electronic music too. So am all over the place tbh :P
What other stuff are you into? Pink Floyd anyway ;-)
QuoteQuoteA ford Capri,1.6GT Red with a black roof,black tyres with white lettering,General Grabber. 8-) 8-) 8-)
Just Googled that. Ford Pinto engine, 8 valver, SOHC, 72bhp.
I had the Japanese equivalent, the DA6 Integra. Japanese babe magnet tho it didn't attract much here apart from skobes looking to rob it. Same size engine as the Ford, but twice as many valves and camshafts, and pushing 170bhp -- nearly 100bhp more! -- at 7500rpm. Michael J Fox used to do the adverts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLyUOQ3PXFA)!
What a beaut..DA6 Integra. Tis a pity it's got a bad reputation with scobes and scummers.. They're very well designed and engineered cars. Bullet proof engines too..
I like that era of Honda's too. The EG Civic was a deadly car too - the SiR had a similar engine to the DA6 - great fun, and a serious track car. VTEC is incredibly addictive :) I used to have a DC5 Integra up until it saw the wrong side of a tree at 60MPH :( Don't know how I walked away from it without a scratch, but here I am at least! IMHO they reached the pinnacle with that car in what they can do with an NA engine - was a serious motor! Oh well! :P
What stuff am I into?
Wow, that's a long list
Rory Gallagher #1
Muddy Waters
Blues....in general
Leo Kottke....man that guy can finger pick
Rod Y Gab...possibly the most talented guitarists of modern years.
Prince...deadly guitarist.
The Cure - Robert Smith is a very talented guitarist
The Smiths...Johnny Marr and his jangly guitar ;)
Talking Heads - probably my favourite band
The Kinks - Another great band
Nirvana - They oozed a punk style negative energy..you could hear Cobaine dying in agony long before he took his own life.
Amy Winehouse - So sad, such a talent....
I'm 41 so there's a heavy 80's slant to my tastes, but I also did a lot of raving in Germany in the 90's so I like a bit of Sven Vaeth and the like too, German old school techno really.
I could make a list that would go on for hours..but I'll stop :)
<edit> I forgot The Rolling Stones, still the best R&B band of all time.
Metal...rock...yeah forgive my lumping and labelling ;) but the previous guy you mentioned was some shredder dude.
QuoteAh that's not really fair. There's a difference between stout and porter too.
The "shredder dude" also did the likes of this (http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=zakk+wylde+covers+the+classics) and this (http://grooveshark.com/#!/search?q=book+of+shadows).
Yeah point accepted, I suppose I looked him up before and saw he was Sabbath....so at that point I made assumptions....
I like some rock, but am allergic to metal so I'm a bit flippant when it comes to it, the pics of him on google do nothing to dispel my preconceptions either, the y shaped shredder guitar etc...
But hey not everyone likes porter or stout :)
I'm sure you could drive a bus through my preferences listed just a few posts ago :)

Ah lovely - some great artists there, and think we have quite a bit of crossover too. I saw the Stones in Slane a few years back..what a gig, a real experience. IMHO, the true original bad boy rock band - no one else has really come close! Their new single out at the moment is fairly catchy too, guess they still have some talent!! :P The Smiths are a great band too - maybe a little under-rated? Great stuff though, good for drinking and driving...errr..maybe not at the same time tho! Not sure if you've seen this video of Prince at a tribute to George Harrison, unreal!!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9Y It's a pity that although there is still this caliber of guitarist still around, the music that they play isn't appreciated in mainstream music - then again, probably just look good beer, it might take away from it if it was mainstream and make it that bit less special!
QuoteDA6s are like hen's teeth now, and were even getting rare when I sold mine (which I'm very sorry I did). Top of the range model XSi but it needed constant work due to its age and mileage. Engine pulled like a train even though there was almost 250k kms on the clock, and the howl at 5500rpm when the magic happened was intoxicating! I had an EK VTI after that, which was showroom condition when I bought it, same engine, but it wasn't nearly as much fun. Always wanted a DC5 and nearly bought an S2k instead, but in the end bought neither.
@Eoin, I wouldn't say metal as such. Like good beer I have an appreciation for good guitar, regardless of style, but my preference would be more for the rock end of things. I'm going to see Steve Vai in Vicar St next month, and went to see Rodrigo y Gabriella in the Olympia not so long ago.
Any pictures of the DA6? Would love to see it! Think I have a few of my DC5 around somewhere, will upload them if I find them! Always fancied a Type R EK9, but wanted DC5 more, so ended up goin with that. I love Integra's, DC2's are lovely as well, but it seems like every skanger in the country has owned and ragged most of em at this stage...it's tough to fins a clean original example that some muppet hasn't bodged at some stage..
If you're in the market again for another Honda, I can highly recommend a DC5.. I'm going to buy another one in the new year!
Have you seen Steve Vai before? If not, you're in for a treat! I saw him a few years ago in Vicar Street as well.. Didn't want to play guitar again after seeing him! :D Saw Satch around the same time too, un-real..two of the best gigs i've ever been to. Enjoy! 8-)

Yea Zakk Wylde took up Randy Rhoads position with Ozzy Osbourne too..out and out rock, yea a fair bit of shredding too, but he actually has his roots in blues and country.
Similar to John 5 who plays along with Marilyn Manson (don't ask me why, IMO he's way too talented to be in that band) - check out this tutorial video of his - banjo rolls: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdyTw43NZCI
There are a lot of shredder guitarists that aren't just one trick ponies - i've found that they can play many different styles as well as musicians who stick purely to that style. That said, I do like a little bit of shred :D

That's some aerial Dempsey, was that to make it easier to get a 3G signal out in the sticks?
a 6 foot aerial was a must then, all the good radio stations were illegal and hid in trees or at the top of buildings. Only little aerials got you RTE. :D
QuoteLooks class.
The Parish Priest in Carrick when I was growing up, Father Rigney, had one of these.
Carrick-on-Shannon?
If you grew up down there then chances are I know your people, my family live in between carrick and elphin, one brother lives in Carrick, he's the one who went to Mels for a year or two.
QuoteSmall world! I grew up there and went to Mel's. Though I was born when the folks were living in the middle of the town (St. Mary's Close -- up the hill opposite the Bush Hotel) I lived on the Elphin Rd since age 8. Out just past the railway bridge 300 yards on the left.
Where abouts are you from? Do you still have family apart from your brother there?
Only the one brother now in Carrick, he lives in the new estate accross from Mulligans (???) the shop after the train station.
My mother and father still live near Elphin, same place but a country address so hard to describe, but between Carrick and Elphin in any case, about the same height as Hill street.
I lived with them for a while, played Rugby for Longford firsts when I repeated my leaving in Boyle, but then I moved to Germany for almost ten years.
My da used have an old peoples home in Mantua out the other side of Elphin for a while.

Know nothing about guitars (one of the kids is learning allright) but I did have a very similar aerial to that one of Dempseys on a '76 Chevette.
Radio was a piece of shite but the aerial was cool 8-)
It was 88/89 when I had the 76 one, but a sweet car at the time. First time I had anything after my mini phase ;D
It sounds kinda banjoey on the high strings. the lower strings are a wee bit muffled. But when its plugged in ya can tweak it a bit.

Im a drummer playing a mixed 1970's Ludwig vistalite kit. Jelly bean style I guess.
26" kick drum (candy stipe red & white),
13" clear rack tom
16" light blue floor tom
14" x 6.5" yellow snare
Big cymbals all Zildjian avedis- 22" ride, 19" & 20" crashes & 14 hats. Its a full stack high volume band so every inch & db is needed. Ive no real nice pics of the kit but its amazing. Hard to beat the sound of drums that were made before the advent of close micing. Amazing attack & tone.
