Title: Dashcams
Post by: Eoin on December 21, 2016, 11:23:22 AM
Anyone here using a dashcam? Do you find it useful?

I had an incident recently so I've fitted a Nextbase 412gw.
I've only been using it since yesterday so I'm still not sure if this will end up being useful.

I recently got one of these GoPro Session cameras:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GoPro-CHDHS-102-SE-HERO-Session-Camera/dp/B01BVACUZK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1482319807&sr=8-3&keywords=gopro+hero+session

..with a pack of accessories for another 20 quid. I use it for the bicycle ride to work but there's fittings for dashboard, etc as well.

First morning I wore the thing some arseh*le in a Merc was hanging on my back wheel in the bus lane, which normally causes me to cycle VERY slowly, to annoy them. W**k*r undertook me through a paved parking area. Much opinion on each other's merits as a human were exchanged during and after his highly dangerous manoeuvre, but it all came out beautifully on camera. Even have a clear reading of the twat's reg plate.

Probably never do anything with it but I'd say these cameras are becoming more essential every day.

Just my 2c.

Cheers,

-Barry

I have one and been using it for 3 years guards have 3 of my episodes only 1 crash from a guy undertaking 2 cars in front of me
Bad bump and run in a car park and drunk driver I was following in Kerry 1 night, he couldn't even stand up out of the car
these fucking idiots on bikes I had to drive on the path once to avoid one

Stuff like that Barry straight onto psni, they may not prosecute but they will visit

I'd highly recommend one techmoan on YouTube does good reviews

Started wearing a camera mounted on my bike helmet on my daily commute to work after two accidents where dozy/inattentive drivers rear ended me. Both occasions thankfully was not hurt but was shaken. Its amazing the difference in behavior from motorists once they see a cyclist toting a camera especially when they are illegally stopped at traffic lights, txting, apply makeup, shaving etc. It also encourages the most obscene gestures from passengers and pedestrians when they see it.

Not brilliant in the dark, though I haven't played with the settings too much to see what low-light options there are, but it's fine with a little street lighting.

Think I got 2-3 hours' filming between charges which, given my commute is only 15 minutes, is more than enough.

You can download a wee app for your smartphone to view videos, change settings, manage files, etc via a wifi connection to the camera, without the need for a laptop. Pretty nifty.

Waterproof straight out of the box too. No internal storage so you'd need to buy an SD card; 32GB min, I'd say.

I'd highly recommend it.

Cheers,

-Barry

I cycle mostly in the dark at this time of year and my commute is an hour each way so I'd be charging them every day  :-\

I bought a 'strong loud' horn (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Bicycle-Bell-Cycling-Horns-Electronic-Bike-Bicycle-Handlebar-Ring-Bell-Horn-Strong-Loud-Air-Alarm-Bell/32603711797.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.ESNDBe) for my bike. I thought it was going to be like a tanker , so loud it would make pedestrians and drivers shit themselves but it's a bit disappointing

I drive for a living and use a personal one.

It has saved me from disciplinary proceeding twice . Accidents that looked like my fault with pics, but with video evidence ,  it clearly shows some nutter sticking it up the inside on me and crashing.

I use the G1w after watching lots of this guys vids  Techman..  One of his vids below.

Its been in use for over 2 years now,  Still full HD and going strong.  Its taken down and put in a bag every working day..

A lot of folk are saying this one is currently the best  ...    The  DDPai M6

I had one of those too, they're a great piece of kit for cycling in  the city centre. I try to blast it short from a distance and only make people jump when it's getting dangerous, been fucked out of it once or twice, but then you have stories like this... :( :( :( :( :(

While cycling, a car pulled out of a filling station on me years ago, I went over the bonnet.
Having ridden Motorcycles where things happen a lot quicker...
Assume everyone on the road is either an idiot or wants to kill you.
Stopped in traffic one day (motorcycle) a lady reversed, knocked me sideways and went to drive off.
