Looking to temp control a 3Kw brewbuilder element in a 70L pot. Where is the go to place for the above at the moment?
For a boil you don't need a pid just a voltage controller
It's for a HLT
Sestos on eBay is cheapest, look into a pump to recirc that sort of vol even if it's just a solar
25A or 40ASSR?
25 is plenty but 40 amp is better
Especially when you have to deal with counterfeit ones like this http://www.instructables.com/id/The-inner-workings-of-Counterfeit-FOTEK-SSRs/
Here is thread that CH started to help me out to wire this originally - http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/equipment-chemicals/wiring-sestos-pid/msg121647/#msg121647

Did not use raspPi.

Interesting, why not?

The sestod PID takes as input from analog temperature probes RTD PT100 and are not digital probes. The dallas one wire probes are digital - e.g. DS18b20 but they won't work with the Sestos PID controller as far as I know. You can wire the DS18b20 directly up to the raspPi or you can use some some form of shield to isolate the pi.
Take a look at this other thread where I was looking at doing this. I had used a raspberry PI and a DS18b20 to measure and record temperature.

I found the PI to be very unreliable as it kept crashing and I burnt out one from crashes.

Ah that'd do it alright
Have this still available:

I moved onto using CraftbeerPi since. Did not have any issues with it yet (only 3 brews with it). And there is version 3.0 being developed with more functionality.
Cool, any idea what's going in to 3.0? Ordered some SSRs yesterday along with an 8 channel relay board for pumps etc. Might give it an install for a look 😀

Shanna, just curious to know What version of the pi did u find unreliable and what os were u running? I asked this question on the craftbeerpi forum and people are running rasbian on pi 2 and pi 3 for months and are reporting no issues.
Thinking of going cbpi route myself but like the idea of brewpi with the reliability of the arduino
