Has anybody had any issues with the Kilner Swing Top bottles not holding their carbonation?
I bottled a porter back in April 2016, bottle conditioned and batch primed. It was a mix of crown cap, standard swing top and kilner swing top bottles.
I opened a kilner bottle today, flat as a pancake. I opened a 2nd, 3rd, 4th ... all the same. I cracked a crown cap and normal swingtop and they were both fine.
Just wondering is it just me or has anybody else had this issue with the ageing of these particular bottles?
Not sure but I don't think Kilners are supposed to be carbonated?

If you remember my stout from the other night both of the bottles people reckoned were under carbonated and I was surprised by this. I have had lots of problems with beers & bottles in the past but under carbonation was never one of them, in fact over carbonation was usually the problem due to problems with bottle hygiene or else due to beers finishing too high and secondary carbonation kicking off in the bottle. I was pretty adamant that the stout I had done was properly carbonated at least in terms of priming sugar and the process I followed is identical in every way. A batch of table sugar, boiled in water and then cooled before draining the beer on top of it in a bottle bucket. Reading your post now I am starting to wonder if the issue could be with the bottles or more likely the rubber seals that come with them. Did you get the translucent style seals with your bottles? They seemed a bit flimsy to me but I never thought that they would leak C02?
Might be worth a mail to the supplier to check if they have had similar reports. Starting to get worried now as I recently bottles two batches of beer with 50% of the bottles being kilner. Going to try some of these beers in the Kilner bottles and also those in swing tops or crown caps to see if there is any difference in carbonation.

The ones I bought are heavy brown glass swing top Kilner beer bottles so I would be surprised if they are not supposed to be carbonated.

If I remember correctly I'm pretty sure you were meant to be able to do "secondary fermentation" in the bottles.
Declan, surprisingly enough, despite the amount of beers sampled that night I do remember yours and the carbonation issue. :D
The seals were the flimsy looking clear ones too.
I replaced the swingtops with whatever spares I had here and they seemed to be a much better fit.
My next brew will be bottle condtioned and I will use a couple of kilners with original swingtops and with replaced swingtops from HBC.

Holes in the glass?
I'm having this problem too, the Kilner bottles are brand new. Did anyone come up with a solution?
Reading the posts above, it sounds like there may be issues with some of the washers. You can buy rubber replacements here: http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/grolsch-type-spare-washers-50s-p-783.html (http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/grolsch-type-spare-washers-50s-p-783.html). I replaced the washers on a bunch of Grolsch bottles with these and they've worked fine so far.
There are just replace with the washers posted above, the ones that come with them are shite. Bottles are amazing as gifts heavily embossed but I've yet to get one back...bastards!
They just don't hold a seal, I've chucked 40+ bottles of beer/cider that were capped the swing caps because there was mould visible on the beer/cider while those capped with crown caps were perfectly drinkable.
