Any tips on removing the spear from this keg, I have let the pressure out no problem, seen load of vids on how to do it but none for this type (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170228/7a8755fff04ebf9aa99dfe1856c3ea09.jpg)
What's it for? Just cut/drill it out
Thinking I can use it as a stainless fermenter. Drilling the seal could work alright
Ok if it's a fermenter try and wedge out that seal with a large screwdriver and rip it off with a pliers.
You might be able to wedge it then and drill the middle spear?
looks like a type A sankey Keg

Maybe try pushing down and twisting like the video and then twisting the top off completely
like this should come straight out instead of botching the catch like he does to get the spear out

Good luck!
Do you have my advice for other types. I've been trying to removed the spear from an S and U type to no avail.

Get a Stanley wunderbar.. it end fits perfectly between the lugs. Turn until it's free and at that point you need a 1" extension (adapter for drill/screwdriver) sit it on top of the spear over the hole, put your coupler on and engage to release clip...
I use six of these type kegs and all open in seconds..
Disclaimer: release pressure first and at your own risk

That's how I got mine off, you don't need that tool just create a nick with a grinder or cold chisel and tap anti-clockwise with large screwdriver and hammer. Then a bit of fiddling with a large and a small screwdriver to release it.
Murphys LAW :-\
Someone will skip the depressurize part and loose an eye if lucky. The spear will come out like a bullet.

Depending o what it's used for. .
Hammer and Flathead will work but damage the lugs..
Using coupler and extension will realise spear without ANY damage to seals or other parts

Indeed pressure has been released from both, and I got a few lumps of muck into me eye. Which size of the wonder bar fits the fitting? I assume you're talking about the U-type.
I have the S-type one nearly opened, its getting the catch to engage so I can lift out the assembly thats catching me.
Normally speaking you have to push down the middle while pulling out the spear to release tge catch afaik
The problem is I can't manage to jam the yoke open and then jiggle it about to remove it. The spring is too strong for me.
I tried to get spears out if my kegs and in the end just used the angle grinder and carved them off. Was very satisfying after all the faffing around :)

Have you coupler?

Indeed, however I much prefer the idea of using it as a fermenter or for long aging. I've no use for a mash tun/kettle that size
Use a coupler with a 2C coin dropped into the top of the spear first for the s type. This allows the coupler to push an extra bit and disengages the safety
2c coins are hard to come by. I'm selling a few for EUR2 each ;)
Have you any more of those €5 notes for 50c left?
I made a little tool to do th eHinos.
Unfortunately its lost in "Dempsey's Black Hole"
