Title: Last minute carbing sugar
Post by: Boycott on April 07, 2017, 10:21:00 PM
Anyone have any carb drops or sugar for a new brewer in the maynooth area? He was relying on tesco having some but they don't anymore and the pharmacy only had flavoured dextrose. If anyone could help him out tomorrow or point me to the closest place that sells any that would be cool.

Ordinary sugar or caster sugar will do the job just fine if you can't find dextrose, I use them all the time for batch priming. There's alot of talk of sugar thinning out body but that's more to do with kit and kilo recipes where the kilo is all sugar.  The 100g or so for priming 20L+ wont make any noticeable difference to the final beer.

I've never used anything other than regular, cheap as you can get table sugar for priming.
Makes absolutely no difference.

For bottling, carbonation drops are handier if you are just doing a few but really, batch priming using a bottling bucket is what you should be doing for consistency.
