I moved house recently and somewhere in the chaos, put grains - some unopened, some re-sealed after use -into some of my fermenting buckets. Seemed like a good idea at the time, figured I wasn't going to be using them for a few months and they were going to be sitting in a garage.
Am planning a Gose style thing with lacto and as I started separating out stuff to keep for sour only, it occurred to me that stashing the grains in the fermenters might have imparted some kind of wildlife? I know a lot of people say don't crush the grains where you mean to brew - would this hold true here?

I use 5 liter and 10 liter clean unused buckets to store grains in and it's fine. I got a load of them from Alpack.
If you can spare these fermenters I'd be cautious and wouldn't reuse them for fermenting clean beer. You could use them for storage or sours. If you do want to reuse them, provided there's no scratches or other marks on the inside of them, and that you clean properly you will probably be ok.
I also aent the Alpack route. Safest option...
I did this last week. I was offered multiple litres of wort and the only places I had for it were buckets that I used to store my crushed grain. I washed them thoroughly and sanitised them and now I'm fermenting away in them. Not sure if the batch will get infected but I'll know by the end of this week.
