Following on from our successful foray into the wonderful world of inter-county grudge matches, Wee County and Royal County Brewers are looking to open up our competition to the nation.
When: Nov 25th
Where: Boyne Brewhouse
What: Stout in all its glory be it sweet, dry, milk, spiced, American, Imperial or anything else in between.
And.......we're live. Registration can be completed at www.weecountybrewers.com (huge thanks to Mick in Kildare for all his help setting this up).
The prizes are shaping up nicely.
Brehon Brewhouse have weighed in and said they'll brew the winning beer, the grain for this is being sponsored by Loughran Family Malts.
We have vouchers from thehomebrewcompany.ie, malt and hops from themottlybrew.ie, a night's B&B in the D hotel in Drogheda and who knows what else will crop up between now and November!
All in all, it's well worth entering your finest stout!
I know you state that you will be accepting stouts in all their glory but will you be accepting fruit stouts?
I hope so too ;)

Belgian stout is not a BJCP style, would it be possible to enter one as 34B - mixed styles.
Is it a bjcp competition? Will 33cl bottles be accepted?
Like the sound of this, hopefully it won't be a bjcp comp though

Why? There's a category for all beers even if it doesn't fit in neatly to one of the 'regular' categories
Well I guess you can be marked down for entering in the wrong category for a start and I believe it stifles creativity
There's a few categories you can put your beer into if you believe it's original/not to style, so that shouldn't get in the way of creativity. Within each style there's quite a bit of wiggle room in the guidelines as well; usually the best beer rises to the top.
I'll agree a beer can be marked down for being in the wrong category, though the judges should usually point out if it's a flaw or just a style problem. It's very rare you get a great, medal possible beer in the wrong category.
Even if it wasn't a BJCP comp you'd still be expected to describe the style and if it didn't map to that style according to the judge you'd still get knocked down
FWIW I don't believe CAMRA judge beer based on closeness to a style definition. So it's not the only way of doing it.

Brew na Bóinne will be BJCP registered. To put some kind of order to the chaos we have landed on the following categories:
15BC, 16ABCD, 20BC, 29A, 30A, 33B and 34B.
All things considered, this should encompass pretty much all forms of stout.
Our stash of prizes is mounting rapidly and it's shaping up to be a great event.
Stay tuned for further details.
Blimey! Thats some spread of categories. Should cover most stuff!!

herbs, and vegetables, as well as nuts (anything with 'nut' in the name, including coconut), chile peppers, coffee,

Herbs are leafy plants or parts of plants (leaves, flowers, petals, stalks) used for flavoring foods."

Will this be allowed to be entered. ?

Enter it certainly, the only thing is that Brehon have let us know that they wouldn't be able to do the whiskey addition should it win overall. They'd need a special licence for fortifying.
Keep those entries coming!

What's the max amount of entries allowed per entrant?
Per category?
I can't find shipping location address. Is it the same like judging location?
We haven't put any limits in place. If you can get your entry to a club rep, we're trying to organise collection. If not, shipping will be to Boyne Brewhouse.

As halloween approaches, scaly little pricks start messing around with perfectly innocent servers.
As a result, we've lost all data associated with our competition.
Could you please take the time to re-enter your details, whether you've entered a beer or registered as a judge.
We still have a list of everyone who had already paid, so as soon as your details are back in the system I can mark your entries as paid.
At last count we had 33 entries.
I am not a Liberian Prince, this is not an elaborate homebrew related scam!
All apologies for this. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171025/2ef411e497fdb16d2874b3ad1c266c2d.jpg)
Quick question about adding an entry. The following are listed as being required.
♠ = Specific type, special ingredients, classic style, strength (for beer styles), and/or color are required.
♦ = Strength required
♣ = Carbonation level required
♥ = Sweetness level required
However the only text field where you can enter information has the following specified in red & blue text.
DO NOT use this field to specify special ingredients, classic style, strength (for beer entries), or color.
Provide only if you wish the judges to fully consider what you specify when evaluating and scoring your entry.
So are those details above required or not?

That field only becomes a requirement if you select a style with one of those symbols beside it.
Example below, if you have a fruit beer you need to enter base beer and fruit addition.
Hope that clears it up for you. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171025/3c4abc0616abfc348d7801b16a221285.jpg)

Sure with the time it took for you to ask me you could have fixed it. I crossed my post out. The previous post was still there. Its a stupid pointless list anyway. Also you don't get to dictate what I should do so I wouldn't change it on that principle.

In the middle of sorting that with CH, one or other of us will be in touch closer to the time, but they will be collected.
Is it possible to deliver your entry to the brewery. I am hoping to do that with mine, if it carbs up. I can drop others out while I'm at it.
I'm Dublin 5 area for work and can meet in the area
Could collect in Mottly Brew in Finglas as well.

Delivering to the brewery is no problem, just ask for Sally-Anne when you're there. I'll be spinning in to Dublin on Sat 18th to collect from NCB and Capital if that's any use to you.
5 days until registration closes and we're at 41 entries. That's a whole lotta stout. Any more for the pot? (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171110/00ad6c9d54430908ff6770e3f9ab2baa.jpg)
Just entered one there. Best of luck with the competition.
Great interest in the competition judging by those numbers. Best of luck to all involved.

Would you be able to drop off to the brewery? If not I could meet you somewhere on Saturday.
Is it the Bru Na Boinne brewery just outside Drawda?

We got one of the Cork entries during Mick's cider run. The other one will probably have to post at this stage of the game. Collection is in full swing. I've contacted the entrant and they're happy enough to post. If there's anyone else looking to register tonight, they'll probably have to do the same.

On this, the eve of Brew na Bóinne 2017, we'd like to wish all of our entrants the best of luck tomorrow.

I'll be queuing up to get my hands on a few bottles of this. Exceptional stuff!
Thanks. Really chuffed with this. It was a bit of an experiment but I took my time planning the recipe and I was pleased with the result. Glad the judges liked it too!
The standard in the competition was very high. Great to see so many unusual stouts entered. The judges had their work cut out for them. Well done to everyone involved from organising to judging!

A quick update on scoresheets, the scanner in work is on the blink. So hang in there, I'll have the sheets out to everyone as soon as I can.
Take photos of them in your phone if it's acting up
Received my score sheet and got what I wanted out of it, feed back not too far off my own thoughts.
My first comp so happy with that
Well done Wee County & Royal County and thanks to all concerned for putting this competition together. Congratulations to all the winners also, some great prizes there. Got my score sheets this morning and very happy with the comments and feedback.
Thanks for running a great comp lads... Totally enjoyed the process. Two firsts for me, my first stout and First competition. Quite happy with the feedback and great to see your beer evaluated in such a way.
Keep an eye out for this happy little chappy, should be spotted out and about soon.
Congratulations again to Oisín for winning our stout competition last November, all good things come to those who wait!
