Would this (http://www.homestoreandmore.ie/bins+liners/waste-paper-bin-mesh/invt/057245) work? What should I look out for when purchasing. Obviously nothing which is covered in plastic. Anybody care to share their DIY ideas?
doubt that would be fine enough.
why not just use a bag?
baskets i've seen when thinking along those lines are crazy prices

Get two and put one into other to double mesh count :)
I assume you mean to use a bag as well and the basket is just for ease of lifting?
Check for temperature range if possible. I would just be wary though because if you forget to turn off your heat source you could end up melting the bin all over your kettle.
As a basket you still don't know what it's made from.
I wouldn't. It's not going to be food grade and you would be phoning China to find out.
As a in basket used with a bag, so mesh size isn't an issue. My bag is getting hammered with the lifting and squeezing, I wanted to put it in a basket and then put a spare weight on the grain afterwards to get whatever goodness remains. Attaching the basket to a pulley as well pay me an option in the future.
We don't fry turkey's like our friends across the pond so those larger baskets aren't available over here.
Anyone have any alternatives?
How's about this?

50 sterling. I'd be interested at that money. They appear to be sold out atm :(

I've just emailed him to see if they are getting it back in again & if they could do a qty discount on it.
The size looks like it might fit a keggle spot on.
50 Sterling! Thats a bit outside of my price range I'd say. I'm looking to mend and make do with the old homebrewer DIY attitude.
And then I had a brainwave! I use a plastic FV and I have an old boiler made from plastic, so why not a plastic mash BIAB strainer bucket? Fiver from Alpack (https://www.alpack.ie/products/vc102_20_litre_bucket_sold_individually_vc102.html?filter_set%5%5=24,336) ,it's foodgrade and can cope with mash temps easily without leaching. Drill several holes into the bottom for drainage, put my mash bag inside and then the grains. Handle can be used to lift it out manually or in future put on a pulley.
It's not as sexy as stainless steel and micron mesh thats for sure, but for a fiver could certainly fill a void in the short term. Any input?
certainly sexier than a bin
That depends what floats you're boat :o
Looks aside, on the science / H&S side of things would this be a potential option? Providing its kept cleaned and scratch free.
Scratch free?? You plan on drilling holes in the bottom of it. ;D
Not sure why I'm treating it like a FV! Old habbits die hard.
Will pull the trigger on this one then, seems a good solution to a trivial problem. Give me chance to save up for a SS Mesh one should I feel the need later on.
Just be careful moving when its hot as it might not be as rigid when its hot.
Got a reply from Matthew, Keg Kingdom (I also let him know there might be a few people interested):
"I am currently changing my supplier of these but due to this I do not expect a restock for around 3 months sorry about this

I've asked him to let me know when/if they're back in stock.
