Title: BJCP judges to evaluate beers?
Post by: wartotojas on July 04, 2017, 09:19:32 AM
Hi,

Just wondering if any of BJCP judges would be willing to do some tasting on beers and give quick feedback? I am looking to improve my recipes and techniques and looking for feedback.

I know this could be done at club meets or entering beers into competitions, due to my personal circumstances I can't join club meets at the moment  :(

If there would be any volunteers I could possibly post a beer or drop it in person if anywhere near.

Thanks  :)

Aye, let us know where you are based and we can figure out who's closest to you to get you some feedback.

Wartotojas I'm based in mullingar.. I'm not bjcp but I've judged in a few competitions. I go to monthly liffey brewer meets and would be happy to bring your beer to get scored.

If you can get bottles to North Dublin no problems doing up scoresheets for you. There's a good few bjcp judges in our ranks

Closest from airport will be Swords.
Or if 'traveling' during the day you can leave it with me on Santry.

I've mentioned it before but we could have willing judges put on a parcel motel list and bottles could be delivered randomally. Feedback could be anonymous if they want.
The likes of parcel motel would take a lot of the hassle out of the logistics.
Club could take a small fee for for supplying the drop off details of selected judge.
Just an idea.

It's a great idea Nigel and one I'd be totally behind. There is an issue with a lot if the shipping companies not accepting liquids, so we'd have to solve that as well.

I think Untapped works for rating homebrew.

Probably not that hard to get one well packed bottle sent out.
Just an idea.

Thanks everyone for help. I will get my bottles to Jacob and he will take it from there to get it up North County.

Nigel, idea is great, question is if there are many brewers as myself that may want to get feedback without entering into competitions or who are not able to attend club meets.

Once again this community proves to be awesome.  :)

I think so, I would certainly avail of this service. Especially when your brews are not quite turning out right and you want tips to improve

After getting my score sheets. Many thanks to everybody who helped me out. A lot of invaluable feedback and hopefully I will be able to turn them brews into even better beers.

Looking at average scores from three judges lowest average was 25 and highest average was over 31. I honestly did not expect them to be scored that high. I thought these beers were bad/or just ok. I know award winning beers would be in mid/high 40s and thought my beers  would barely score 25. Do I need to re-calibrate my thinking of what 'bad' beer is?

once again thanks everybody :)
