Title: pump wanted
Post by: LordEoin on July 30, 2017, 09:54:10 PM
Howdy!
I'm looking for a pump. nothing fancy. something along the lines of what comes with a bulldog brewer.
Hopefully someone here has one on offer instead of going the aliexpress route.

There's a difference between nothing fancy, and will choke in unexpected circumstances.

The key issue with pumps is how they handle getting crud in them, like a stray kernel or clumps of hops.

If you can guarantee clean liquid, say for IC usage, or very clear wort, the cheap options look good, and buying a backup makes sense too.

But for dirty purposes, like say RIMS you might want to examine the reviews.

Buy cheap fast and repent at leisure ;)

Yup, hence me looking for a reasonable alternative.  ;)

The one thing that put me off pumps was the fact that they become an integral part of your setup, so if they choke you are a bit screwed really.

Hoping to eventually put my keg kingdom 3000 pump as a RIMS setup , but if it goes crazy I still have a solar pump for transfers.

If you have a drill, there are the drill powered pumps, but they are probably a bit unsubtle for common use cases. They are cheap though

For a herms or rims setup pumps are s must. When everything goes to plan they are a pleasure to work with but when they play up they can be a right pain in the tits.

Sorted with a chugger pump now, thanks.
I'm sure I'll live to regret this, but right now I'm chuffed to try something new ;)

Should have gotten 2. Once you get one going you'll want another. They make everything so effortless.

I've got 1 chugger for mash/whirlpool. And got a 12v pump for the hlt, currently putting that together, so haven't tested it out yet.
