Title: Legal home distilling?
Post by: FlimFlamFlo on September 22, 2017, 11:13:32 AM
I'm interested in experimenting with making essential oils / hydrosols for flavours but have vague recollections of even the liebig condensers for school chemistry having to be registered in some way.

Is it legal to set up or buy a still to make non-alcoholic anything in Ireland? Just looking to extract plant flavours, no booze whatsoever to be involved.

Any ideas?!
Thanks very much, Flim.

Yeap, if it wasn't legal homebrew shops wouldn't sell stills (http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/air-still-mini-distillery-kit-p-4130.html).
Quite sure that few of us already distill water  :P

I'm pretty sure the instructions stress that you have to live up a remote mountain to use it. Preferably somewhere in Hazzard county.

Well I certainly qualify for the halfway up a mountain hillbilly part. Will check with the Hazzards first though.

Thanks for that :-)
