This year's escape from the smell of burning tyres in the Greater Belfast area and beyond sees us taking refuge in Westport.
Haven't been there in many years, and back then I was a Guinness drinker with no responsibilities (or taste in beer), so any recommendations for child-friendly, non-stag-or-hen-friendly craft beer selling (on tap) hostelries that do decent food would be greatly appreciated...
...or am I being way too hopeful with the above stipulations?
Cheers,
-Barry
I don't know any bars, but Mescan is based there so I'm sure you'll find something.
West Mayo Brewery Sunset, and Irish Red, is quite morish.
Achil Island brewery would be worth a look, too. Easy to find on the island. If you have kids, Tom the tour guide at the Achil museum is a must.
Was there about a month ago, which is why I have held onto those three bits of information.
If your into trad music go to Matt Molloys they stock west mayo and mescan the last time I was there.
If your not into trad music avoid it and go to mcgings instead they've more of a beer selection and it's less cramped.
Cheers, folks.
I'd heard of McGigns alright, & will try out Matt Molloys too.
Weather permitting, I'd hope to get to Achill Island. Maybe persuade the wife to drive that day :)

Be aware that achill brewery is closed down...
Reel Feel brewery is in mayo too.
mcgings has the best selection, and was told the kids were grand all night as long as they didn't annoy him, Pizza place next door was class with a good selection too, went for a few whiskeys in McDaids(they do a great taster tray), same deal was made with barman, seriously easy going people there, and Mescan is everywhere! Superrvalu is great for "thank fuck they're in bed" beers at home! Tavern in Murrisk is phenominal for food and beer if you have a designated driver (ten min drive)
