The original BrewCon (https://brewcon.ie/)
is back for the fifth time on Sat, 5th October 2019!
Since our inaugural event in 2015, we have brought you; the fundamental ingredients of brewing, pushing the boundaries on what you can achieve in a glass of beer and broadening your brewing skills to achieve even more in improving your brewing ability.
For our 5th event, we've decided to do something different. This year we are Raiding the Rascals.
Yes, that's right, we'll be taking over Rascals for the day at Rascals' HQ; hosting a more dynamic open plan event in a live & kicking brewery. Not only that, we have a fantastic line-up of speakers from these various backgrounds:
- Ron Pattinson – Historical Beer Researcher
- Marshall Schott – Brülosopher
- Philip Woodnutt – Wicklow Hop Company
- Mini Talk sessions with Richard Silberry, Christina Wade, Sarah Pantry, Tom Coughlin, Dave Leitch, Andrew Moore, James Keane
- Featuring the return of the Bag 'o' Cans on the couch & introducing the Rascals Pizza Oven
With the change to the format, you'll have a choice of talks as part of the afternoon's Mini Talk breakout sessions. Choose from a range of niche talks on equipment setup, sensory analysis & judging beers and a look back at older styles & the history of beer.
Club Night makes it's return, with exclusive access for BrewCon attendees this year showcasing the best brews from clubs across the country. Alongside a selection of commercial craft beers, we will have local clubs from all over the island pouring corny kegs of their own brews. We will have some great beers pouring and we encourage lots of inter-club mingling with a little bit of friendly rivalry too, as they show off their skills.
General tickets for BrewCon (https://brewcon.ie/)
will go on sale on Wed 19th June at €60 for the day.
As we are limited to only 100 this year, NHC Members are getting a head start on purchasing tickets - not a member, join here now (https://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/chit-chat/gtgtgtgt-membership-how-to-sign-up!/).
Cheers & hope to see you there, Kellie#BrewCon2019P.S. Remember to fill out the Google Form when you get your ticket confirmation email from Eventbrite to book your Mini Talk times (we need these to be able to schedule the day to make it run smoothly)Last Edit: Today at 10:08:58 AM

We hope to see her over here next time.
Another reminder to fill out the Google Form when you get your ticket confirmation email from Eventbrite to book your Mini Talk times - thanks to those that have, if you haven't can you please, we need your feedback to arrange timings on the day.
Thanks, Peter

Cheers POB,
For anyone who has already filled in the Google Form with Sarah as one their options (as I did), do we need to update our choices, and if so, how? If I click on the form again, it say's that I have already responded.
Thanks in advance,
JDC
I've allowed you to edit it now. So anyone who needs to change it can go back in.
Thanks POB, that worked perfectly and I have resubmitted the form.
What was her subject?
I bought 3 tickets so how do I fill out the form for the other two attendees?

Registration at 9:30, talks starting at 10:00
Are there any tickets still available or has anyone got a spare one?

Its been so long since I registered I can;t remember what sessions I'm booked for.

Hey, it was just a preference survey you filled out before, to help me come up with a schedule. It wasn't binding. I'll send you an email as I need to assign people to different lunch times, the pizza oven can't make all 100 pizzas at once.

Still available on
BrewCon.ie (https://www.BrewCon.ie) or indeed, there is one NHC Member one, in the
For Sale (https://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/for-sale/1-ticket-for-brewcon/) section.
Hi,
As a convention newbie, I've two wee questions
A: what time do things wind up at?
B: Will be sorting out accommodation - any recommendations for reasonably priced bed near Rascals ? (Note- answer to question A may influence B!)

Hostels in town best bet but you may struggle this late and sleep with back against the wall
Just looking again at the lineup and plans for Brewcon, looking sweet even for those of us who think we know how to brew

.
Not to be missed if you don't already have a ticket.
Looking forward to meeting new faces and drinking club beer as well as top notch Rascals Brews.

again to the organisers.

Hi Slev,
We finish up at 8pm on Rascals.
I'm not sure on suggestions for accommodation, hope you have managed to secure somewhere.

Thanks Kellie. Booked into a hotel nearby. Looking forward to it.
Hi,
Just want to say thank you so much to all the organisers who made today possible , to Rascal's, the speakers and to the Clubs who provided the brews for Club Night. As an NHC BrewCon virgin, I had a really great time! ... spent far to much on a Ron Pattinson book on porters,
and took away a lot of valuable information on the difficulties of setting up a regional rural home brew club in the west of Ireland. I hope to speak to you all again soon!
Regards,
Matt
Agreed, Great day!
Yes, well done everyone!
A huge thanks to everyone who organised. Really enjoyed the day. The format meant that all the speakers were very accessable. Thank you again
Yes, a big THANK YOU from the Belfast Crew out to all the organisers, speakers and of course to Rascals!
Great day out.
Andy, Barry, Kilian, Stephen and Niall
Yep a great day, delicious beers, and a shiny new grainfather to top it off :)
Thanks to all involved!
Great day out, cheers to all involved!

agree with all the above - great day and thank you to the organisers. And some very tasty beers at the club night too!
Great day as always.
Kudos to speakers, venue and most importantly the organisers, you did a fantastic job!
Just to echo all of the above, thanks to all involved in putting together another great day. I know that a lot of hard work was put in behind the scenes, but it certainly paid off. Thanks again!
Thanks for everyone's kind comments, it really means a lot. I am very happy with how it went.

Saturday was great craic. I particularly liked Philip's yeast presentation and the Mystery of the Vanishing German Sours. Thought the Tropical Stout at club night was class.
Well done on all the organisation, no mean feat!

Well done Brian you did a great job and great co-ordination on the day.
Also enjoyed Saturday greatly. Much thanks to all involved in organising and volunteering.
Well done to the team of organisers, from what I've heard there was so much work done in the background - thank you all so much for organising such a great day out.
Folks there was some confusion about the the Yeast on offer for those that attended from WHC.
The yeast was in fact brought to the event and will NOT be distributed by the HBC.
Unfortunately some attendees took it upon themselves on the day to help themselves to as many yeasts as possible where they should of only taken one.
If there is a yeast that you were looking for, collectively as the club we need to see if we can sort that outside of WHC or HBC as these sponsors have fulfilled their obligation to us.
Perhaps Mods want to split this off so folks who didn't get any can out out a call for a fair share or potentially get slurry from a fellow brewer?
Sorry about the confusion.
Also really enjoyed the day as my first brewcon and thanks to all the organisers.
Just a question were the results of the exbeeriment announced or the difference in how the beers were brewed?
The logistics of the beer experiment with such a large crowd didn't really work out. Didn't help that the beer which wasn't brilliant to begin with was really spoiled by being shook up in the taxi.
Red and blue were the same beer, yellow was the odd one out. Yellow was fermented at room temp, the other beer was temperature controlled.
And the big reveal from the end was that I broke all the rules of homebrewing on the brewday. 20min mash, cold sparge water, 30min boil etc.

Only because nowt was explained to us before the beers were poured.
I heard (too late) that you logged onto the experiment [www.brulos..Brewconn.. something] to log your opinion?
BTW: I got Yellow correct

This is why we can't have nice things.
We were talking on the north county WhatsApp and it looks like only one of our members actually for one.

I've a vial here and I'm planning on slanting it. I'm picking bottles up for our competition from James next week, so could drop some with him if anyone's looking for it.
Also, anyone know what strain it is, optimum ferm temperature etc? I know John said it's a bock yeast.
What were the 2 yeasts at the brewcon.
You get one of each? :P

What were the 2 yeasts at the brewcon.
There were several yeasts on the table when I had a look. A couple of Kveiks, Bubblegum and the the unnamed Bock yeast. I took a Ragnar Kveik.
I got Saturate, there was a great selection.
Hi everyone,
sorry for the mixup with the yeasts. We thought there was only 70 coming so brought 75 normal vials. When we figured out there was more coming someone had to pour another 20ish of the bock that morning, hence no labels etc.
It was meant to be one each but no one was manning the desk as I was giving the talk at the same time, so if anyone is disappointed. Drop me a mail philip@whclab.com
Cheers,
Philip
Would you be able to post some info on the bock strain.
Thanks.
