Used to do this online in f1 and later in gt league.
Now playing less often, using something like this :)

but if you're good in GT you should find yourself here pretty quick. Played GT few time but still think that rF is way more realistic.

Now that looks like my sort of game. Is it similar to GT in the sense that you start with a particular car and unlock more or.....

There is no carrier mode as such. It's up to u which car you'll be driving and where. Selection of tracks and cars is really impressive (specially for rF1, rF2 is still in beta stage), and you can download all of them for free.
