 What were they producing there?
Where else have they got production other than Dublin?

I believe that Dundalk is gone also. A certain craft whiskey distiller was looking to buy it but they larger tanks up there are not of much use to them and take up an awful lot of space. I have heard that they built around them and they go through 4 floors. With the new brew house in James gate I don't see them going to Liexlip any time soon.

And just wait till the "East European Water Meter Installation Team" arrives at the "gate of the Gate" to dig up the road!!!

QuoteWhat I don't like about water charges is Irish Water (a Bord Gais company) is a billing company. The water system will still be run by your local council, but Irish Water will bill you. There will be no economies of scale. There will only be an extra 400 bodies in Irish Water, all working in a call centre, which will need to be paid. Most of what you pay in charges will be wages. The rest of the supply chain won't change.

I dpubt their top man who'll be pulling four hundred large a year will be working in a call centre....  >:(

No, but I believe they haven't had their property tax estimate letters from the Revenue yet ;)

And they won't either. They are only leasing the property :)

QuoteWhat were they producing there?

They make high strength Guinness 'syrup' that gets exported and then mixed with lager to make stout. Magic.

They make Harp (and a few others) in the Dundalk plant, although they are planning to move production to St.Jame's Gate.

Well lager or pale ale, mash it then using a high tech handle or button :D let the essence(marketing girl),syrup(man from Donegal),black gooee stuff(any 7 to 10 year old) mix with it. ;)

Essence I think they call it. Are you sure about the lager bit?! :o

They call it extract and have a plant dedicated to just it. It is mixed with a pale malt base I thought???

I was told they mash a pale malt mash and add the gooee stuff after mash along with the hop extract and boil that in the kettle.

So there is truth to what thought was anecdote that Irish Guinness is better than the stuff abroad.
It makes sense now.
