Title: UK Only Deliveries to Ireland
Post by: Partridge9 on April 12, 2013, 09:40:38 AM
Guys -

I might be the last kid on the block to know this but ..

You can use a site called Parcel Motel to get deliveries to UK only.

So what you do is - order something -  when you are delivering - you put in your Parcel Motel address (have to register for this) and then you get charged for a UK delivery - you then pay an additional charge for Parcel Motel.

The parcel get delivered to one of these places

You will get a code to unlock it from a locker ...

I know Hop and Grape charge crazy money for Irish Deliveries - so this is a way round that.

Pretty Cool .. no ??

The first 2 "stays" are free (or at least they were) - so with someone like amazon who usually ship for nothing to the uk, you will pay nothing.

Signup is based on your phone number - so if you have more than one phone number, sign up again and you will get 2 more stays.

Yeah I use parcel motel a bit. Its very good.

Even if you are buying from somewhere that ships to Ireland, if you compare the UK delivery vs Irish delivery, the UK is often much cheaper even after the cost of the stay in the motel.

I'm never at home to accept deliveries and its a nightmare getting stuff delivered to work so its great in that respect!

What about the Texaco garage on the airport road (between the 2 roundabouts and before the scrapyards on the right ( comming from Swords)?

My wife informs me that it's a great system, she does all the stuff that James said and then I get a text to pick up the parcel for her and it is there waiting for her on the kitchen table!

Geese the more i hear about this the more i like the sound of it. A lot of brew related stuff on ebay and amazon especially from USA will only ship to UK and not Ireland so this might be handy. Do they charge by weight?

Have a look at the FAQ here (http://www.parcelmotel.com/faqs.html). The maximum weight is 10Kg, its €3.50 per stay, first two stays free. The only restriction is size, the largest locker size is 41 X 38 X 64 cm.

They give you two addresses, an Irish one and a UK one in the north. You use your name and a unique ID number and one of the addresses. When they receive it they will then move it to your chosen collection point and send you an SMS saying its there and the code to open the box.

There is no extra cost to send it to the UK address so I usually send it there all the time. Its almost always cheaper postage there.

They also say that if its over-weight / over-size for a locker they mail you and tell you you have (iirc) 48 hours to pick it up (for no extra charge) from their main depot in Dublin. After the free hours there is a collection charge or I think they will deliver it to you by van for a much greater charge!!

Size is not a problem!!
