Title: Does everyone here leave their kegerator on 24/7?
Post by: admin on January 12, 2013, 07:49:26 PM
Someone said to me before about putting it on a time switch, to be on between say 5 and 10pm as as not to be wasting electricity.

Anyone give it any thought?

Mine's on 24/7

Would it not cost more switching it on and off.  also I think it would mess up carbonation levels.

Fridge full of kegs or bottles wouldn't loose temp. quickly, so wouldn't use much power.
I have mine on 24/7.
Pointless to have it on 5am-10pm, what if you wake up thirsty at 4:55am in the middle of hot Irish summer and thirsty?   :'(
Different strokes for different folks   8-)

Alealex is right.
A full (upright) Fridge/Freezer if opened regularly, costs less to run than an empty one.
Every open of the door and your cold air effectively spills out on the floor.

Shove an arduino or a Raspberry PI in there with a Thermistor, logg the temp over time and decide for yourself!
