I recently received an order from homebrew.ie included in which were two PET demijohn lids that they assured me would fit no problem on my 5lt still water bottles after i sent them pics of the same to be sure. Well the caps were not the ones i ordered and not a hope they would fit. I went ahead with a brew while they were in sanitize thinking all would be ok only to find i had an fv and no way of putting airlock on it. >:(
I wrapped some tinfoil around the top and scrunchred it against the opening for the time being. Will this suffice long term or will i have to get a drill bit and drill the original caps myself? :-/
What are the exact width of your 5l bottles down to the mm?
Drill out the caps and get some of these http://www.homebrewwest.ie/black-pvc-grommet-794-p.asp
Drill it out to what diameter though rukkus? Mighty one i would say thats per grommit.Ciderhead i do not know as i do not have a vernier calipers.
Just got email back from homebrew.ie and he said to get a 27mm drill bit for the bungs they sent me to fit the original caps. He could not figure out why they would not fit though,he gets in pallets of tipperary water empties and they are the caps he uses to fix up with.
