Title: Bounce in temps
Post by: rukkus on January 21, 2013, 10:11:16 PM
I've a brew fermenting at the moment and it's being watched by a stc-1000. My temp is dialed in at 19.4c with a range of 0.5 before the heater kicks on.

I've been watching it hit the temp, drop back down, heater kick in and then hit 19.4 again. Is the constant bouncing up and down likely to have any bad results?

0.5 is too tight go for 1 degree

Just after i posted this the controller packed in. Seems to be dead.

Checked for loose connections, then directly connected it up with just a power cord. Checked fuse. Nothing....

It was running fine for the last day.

Could have been the switching mine also triggers on at max 10 min setting
Your probe should be in direct contact with fermenting vessel?
With stcs so cheap I have 4 :)
Where do you work?

Strange it just packed in, i couldnt see a short. Considering it wont turn on with only a power connected i'm guessing its done for.

Based in Wexford these days cider.

Ok it's in the car set at 19 plus or minus 1 degree kicking in after 10 mins.
Sellotape or duct tape the temp probe to the side of the fermentation vessel
What are you using to heat?

I ask as stcs are normally only rated to 10 amps.

All setup again. Rewired the box just in case. Not using the fermwrap also in case it was that. I've setup a waterbath with an aquarium heater. Once it hits a decent temp the fermenter is going in it.

I've set it up with a 1c diff and a 10min wait time as suggested.

Thanks a million, awesome to be up and running again so quickly in the cold weather.

Not only do i owe you a replacement stc but some beer also :D
