I was going to post a sticky about marking stuff as read.
By right we should have marked EVERYTHING as read before we kicked off, and let everyone finish off their catch-up on the old forum.
Oh well.

You can change default theme using 'Look & Layout' option.
I've switched to 'SMF Default Theme - Curve'
AWESOME! Well done lads. No more using google to search the forum.
I am finding that the forum is not remembering that I have checked the never log me out button and I am having to enter my password each time. I have FF remembering it now too, but none the less the in-built function should be working and a "remember me" button would be handy by the login top right as well as going through the login link.
Maybe yous have caught this one, but should the logo at the top of the forum not link back to the main page?

Yeah, I noticed that aswell.
And I was hoping you could help, that's us screwed then ;)
Firefox also seems incapable of remembering the password. Just happened to me again.
It also seems to give out your email address by default.

Well caught, go to modify profile and change the setting "allow other users to email me", that will stop the email address being published.
@Shane, that might be something you'd change on a system level quickly as that's not a good one, allowing emails to leak, considering the defaults on the last version.

Yes.
In the box where your avatar is - if the envelope is present it will allow you email the person and show the email address.
No sorry scrap that...
It only shows YOUR OWN email address.
I clicked on my own envelope and saw my email address in the "From" field, and assumed it was showing the address it was sending "to".
Gobshite ami....
Thanks,as I move around the place trying to find where I am going,I found the little envelope that tells if your online or not. It will take a while to get used to where everything is,deffo like what I am seeing so far. More dumb may(will) fol;low. :). eeh just one here can we have more smilies to help reflect truly the many moods we all feel. :)
Hmm ok it appears it was just in my profile and when I made that change it no longer showed my email in my profile summary so I assumed it was global.
I hate smilies...... :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) ??? ::) :P :-[ :-X :-\ :-* :'(
Looks like the two posts are racing each other ;D
That's cool, how do you do that,is it this,
I'm a little birdy flying,look maa
Yeah Brian - the envelope is a different discussion. That indicates that you can email the person to their email address that they signed up with.
The only way to tell if someone is online (AFAIK) is to look at the list at the bottom of the forum page (http://nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php)
There is nothing beside the person's post.
No Jimmy, the little envelope has a big dot in it when your online and no dot when your offline, jeez I'm teaching a techie wow. :)

What does Committee mean with respect to Forum privilges?
I see no mention of Moderators yet - or am I being impatient Again!!
Non-logged in users can browse away on the forum and see most posts.
I'm not sure if this was the case on the old forum as I was pretty much logged in all the time, home , work, phone, tablet...
Guests could view everything that ordinary signed up members could see - they just couldnt post.

The "logged" thing replaces IP addresses that you are not allowed see. meaning the ipaddress is logged but you cant see it.
Mods will see all ip addresses - non-mods can only see there own. i.e. instead of the "logged" on your own posts you will see the ipaddress you were on when you made that post (or it could be your current one you are logged in with - not sure)
Having problems with my PMs. I can see a new one, but when I click on it nothing happens?
Bravo lads. New forum is smashing.
The "View Unread Posts" feature is the single greatest improvement from the old software. It was far too easy to miss new posts on the old system.

How do I see my notifications? I have 'unnotify'(as in its checked) when i look at the thread but when i check my 'new replies to your posts' some of my marked threads dont come up? Im sure its a a simple answer i cant work out, but i pretty much always just check my notifications (threads ive marked) everytime i go in to the forum, (just to clarify, i want to see all the threads ive checked in one list, with new replies or not)
cheers :)
Look in...
Profile > Summary
Click Show Posts on the left
Is this what you're looking for?
Only issue I see is that I'm being logged out anytime I navigate away from the forum... I have had to log in 20 or 30 times today at this stage.
log out, then click on 'Please login' in the top right corner.
This brings you to another login page which has a 'stay logged in forever' tick box.
Tick this, then hit login.
no john, thats not it, i just want to see the threads ive marked 'notify' in one place, the new replies to your posts is nearly it, but there's a good few that dont come up in that that ive defo checked 'notify'.
anyhoo, im sure ill work a new system for meself, well done guys anyways, just my own teething problems :)
I'm getting different sized text when viewing the forum on my phone. I'm using chrome on a HTC one. It doesn't seem a problem on other forums.
But...when I go to post I see the text the correct size. ??? :-\ :'( :'(
Sorry but I do not like the PM system!
You have to know the exact e-mail address ( there is no "look up" of recent contacts or the membr DB!
We are not getting notifications of PMs
Reading PMs is weird to say the least!!

To Turn on PM notification...
My messages, preferences, change settings
There's a fault with the "new poll" option also-it will let you fill everything in but won't let you post. Preview works fine though but no post.
nice one john, i wasnt scrolling down, thought it was just settings, all sorted :)
Poll added.
Permissions problem maybe
Loving the colour, my favourite bike of all time was this colour. Anyway two things, if you go away from site you get logged out and thats a pain, also every post is showing up as new and they are not. Otherwise congrats and Bon Chance.
Still can't get into my PM's to reply to them. I know what's in them based on the notification I get, but I can't reply as when I click on them nothing happens.
Actually is it possible to put some sort of a stealth theme together? As someone else said an Outlook style theme would be great for those of us at work.
I remember having a css one time that could be applied to IE and made sites you were surfing look like spreadsheets or word docs.
@deadman, look at reply 78 in this thread
The "Always keep me logged in" problem should now be fixed. Clear your cache in your browser, then use the login page again. I've tried it here on Chrome, Firefox and IE and it works fine.
Taf, have you tried changing any of your message settings? They are under preferences at the top. When I go to messages and click on a message, it opens the message above the list (or below it depending on which settings you have). It's not like yabb where it opens the message in a new page. If you still have problems try logging out, clearing your browser cache and log back in. Which browser are you using? Can you try it in another?
Clicking on the logo at the top will now bring you to the main site. This is set up on a per theme basis, so if you aren't using the forums default theme then you won't get this.
DrowningManatee - to see topics you want notifications on go to Profile/Forum Profile/Modify Profile/Notifications .
Below the Notification settings is a list of the topics you have asked to be notified on.
Will_D, in the pm system you don't need to type the full name, just the first three letters. The name should appear in the dropdown then. You can also set up a buddy list.
Rossa, what do you mean by different sized text on your phone? I've tried it on chrome on a htc sensation and it looks ok. It could be the css is fixing the size of the text, but you can override that in chromes settings.
CARA - where were you trying to create the poll. Settings can be changed on a per board basis, so one may be set up with the add poll permission turned off.
Rossa - you using opera on your phone - have you got the turbo jobby turned on? Or some other setting where opera reformats the actual page?
Phone is fine for me too (using Dolphin browser on android)
when i am posting editing a post or Pm'ing I am being asked for verification, is this indefinate or for first X number of posts?
Congrats on the forum btw like "new shoes"
Have you verified your account ? (clicked the email link)
Will you log out and log in and try that again ??

Is there any way on a per account basis to change the time so that it shows in 24 hr mode.
When i look and see 03:59 it immediately looks to me like 3 in the morning. I didnt read the pm bit.
I had a look through my profile settings and cant see anything.
I had a PM from TAF, his PM issue was not an issue.

In the late 70s when I worked on a compiler project for ICL ( to compile a HLL version of the microcode into M/c code) we DIDN't release the version "V. 01/04/79".
This update had an interesting feature in that once it had compiled into machine code, it randomly picked an instruction location (not data) and then randomly inverted one of the bits in the instruction word (so either op code, register or dat location would be corrupted).
This would only happen if you ran the compiler on April 1 in any given year!

forum looks slick guys - well done - haven't played about that much with it tbh - feels slightly faster though - couple of things
1. take down the old forum or stick up a redirect - I have been hitting that the last few days and getting the maintenebce message - it only dawned on me today that it wouldnt take that long to move and I went in throughthe site link
2. I had to set my email to "non view " - as in dont email me or something - I noticed it was viewable to everyone who clicked on my profile - not sure this was the case before - maybe make people aware of it ?
3. I had come to rely on the "view last 20 - 40 posts " i presume view new is the same?
not criticisms at all - well done guys - it takes a massive efort to move to a new system and keeping all posts is great
scratch 3 - found the new posts thingy on each section - thats nice !!

Tube these are both options you can switch on under, Profile >Modify Profile >Personal Messaging
Is CH doing support now? ;)
also, im nearly sure that there's a little tick box when you are sending a message to say save the mesage - i think its unticked by default.
In message preferences tick 'save messages by default'.
