Title: Feedback on the new forum
Post by: Metattron on April 17, 2013, 10:06:31 PM
Welcome all to our new and improved forum! Post any feedback on the new forum here.  If you think something is missing or incorrectly configured leave a message here and we'll fix them as we go.  All the new features have not been implemented yet but we shall be tweaking as soon as we get the basics right.

Looking great -but how do I mark everything as "read"?

I can mark an individual thread as "read", but not a Forum or Super forum??

I would like to mark the whole site as "read"

I was going to post a sticky about marking stuff as read.
By right we should have marked EVERYTHING as read before we kicked off, and let everyone finish off their catch-up on the old forum.
Oh well.

You can change default theme using 'Look & Layout' option.
I've switched to 'SMF Default Theme - Curve'

I am finding that the forum is not remembering that I have checked the never log me out button and I am having to enter my password each time. I have FF remembering it now too, but none the less the in-built function should be working and a "remember me" button would be handy by the login top right as well as going through the login link.

Well caught, go to modify profile and change the setting "allow other users to email me", that will stop the email address being published.

@Shane, that might be something you'd change on a system level quickly as that's not a good one, allowing emails to leak, considering the defaults on the last version.

Yes.

In the box where your avatar is - if the envelope is present it will allow you email the person and show the email address.

No sorry scrap that...
It only shows YOUR OWN email address.
I clicked on my own envelope and saw my email address in the "From" field, and assumed it was showing the address it was sending "to".

Yeah Brian - the envelope is a different discussion. That indicates that you can email the person to their email address that they signed up with.

The only way to tell if someone is online (AFAIK) is to look at the list at the bottom of the forum page (http://nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php)
There is nothing beside the person's post.

Non-logged in users can browse away on the forum and see most posts.

The "logged" thing replaces IP addresses that you are not allowed see. meaning the ipaddress is logged but you cant see it.
Mods will see all ip addresses - non-mods can only see there own. i.e. instead of the "logged" on your own posts you will see the ipaddress you were on when you made that post (or it could be your current one you are logged in with - not sure)

Dead sexy guys, savage lookin.

How do I see my notifications? I have 'unnotify'(as in its checked) when i look at the thread but when i check my 'new replies to your posts' some of my marked threads dont come up? Im sure its a a simple answer i cant work out, but i pretty much always just check my notifications (threads ive marked)  everytime i go in to the forum,  (just to clarify, i want to see all the threads ive checked in one list, with new replies or not)

cheers :)

Actually is it possible to put some sort of a stealth theme together? As someone else said an Outlook style theme would be great for those of us at work.

I remember having a css one time that could be applied to IE and made sites you were surfing look like spreadsheets or word docs.

The "Always keep me logged in" problem should now be fixed.  Clear your cache in your browser, then use the login page again.  I've tried it here on Chrome, Firefox and IE and it works fine.

Taf, have you tried changing any of your message settings?  They are under preferences at the top.  When I go to messages and click on a message, it opens the message above the list (or below it depending on which settings you have).  It's not like yabb where it opens the message in a new page.  If you still have problems try logging out, clearing your browser cache and log back in.  Which browser are you using?  Can you try it in another?

Clicking on the logo at the top will now bring you to the main site.  This is set up on a per theme basis, so if you aren't using the forums default theme then you won't get this.

Will_D, in the pm system you don't need to type the full name, just the first three letters.  The name should appear in the dropdown then.  You can also set up a buddy list.

Rossa, what do you mean by different sized text on your phone?  I've tried it on chrome on a htc sensation and it looks ok.  It could be the css is fixing the size of the text, but you can override that in chromes settings.

Is it possible to increase the character limit on user signatures? I can't fit all my beers in! :)

Its set that low to avoid brewing envy and curtail boasting  ;)

Pedantic request here.
Is there any way on a per account basis to change the time so that it shows in 24 hr mode.

When i look and see 03:59 it immediately looks to me like 3 in the morning. I didnt read the pm bit.
I had a look through my profile settings and cant see anything.

I know that as a Pebcak problem "problem exists between chair and keyboard" or a "1D10T" problem does too.

I'll look into it.

Or should you, now that you're back in Engineering?

EDIT: Profile -> Modify Profile -> Look and Layout. Time format is at the top.

Oh right - I knew there was another menu.
I was in there yesterday.
When i looked at it today, it didnt register with me i could Click "Profile" in the main tabs list across the top instead I was only selecting the options that fell down from it when you hovered over it.
Cheers.

I thought you IT types didn't have a sense of humour...
In the late 70s when I worked on a compiler project for ICL  ( to compile a HLL version of the microcode into M/c code) we DIDN't release the version "V. 01/04/79".

This update had an interesting feature in that once it had compiled into machine code, it randomly picked an instruction location (not data) and then randomly inverted one of the bits in the instruction word (so either op code, register or dat location would be corrupted).

This would only happen if you ran the compiler on April 1 in any given year!

forum looks slick guys - well done - haven't played about that much with it tbh - feels slightly faster though - couple of things

1. take down the old forum or stick up a redirect - I have been hitting that the last few days and getting the maintenebce message - it only dawned on me today that it wouldnt take that long to move and I went in throughthe site link

2. I had to set my email to "non view " - as in dont email me or something - I noticed it was viewable to everyone who clicked on my profile - not sure this was the case before - maybe make people aware of it ?

3.  I had come to rely on the "view  last 20 - 40 posts "  i presume view new is the same?

not criticisms at all - well done guys  - it takes a massive efort to move to a new system and keeping all posts is great

Anyone know how to turn on email notifications to PMs?

Also, my Sent PMs aren't getting saved. Is anyone else having that problem?

Tube these are both options you can switch on under, Profile >Modify Profile >Personal Messaging

Any reason not to?
