Hi all,
New to this game. I have been wanting to brew for a couple of year new but never had to room to do it, I recently bought a house with plenty of room so it's time I gave this a shot. I just purchased a starter kit along with a Coopers Canadian Blonde beer kit from homebrew.ie . Fingers crossed it all goes well! Hope to keep ye all updated on my progress.
Brian
Always great to see someone else stepping onto the slippery slope that is homebrewing!
Best of luck with your first kit and we hope to hear all about it!
Don't be shy and ask plenty of questions, especially in the Kit forum, the guys there really know their stuff!
Much appreciated Padraic, thank you for the warm welcome. I'll check out the kit forum as suggested also.
Welcome Brian. You can get some good results out of the Coopers kits -
1. Use spraymalt instead of sugar
2. Only pitch your yeast when the wort (the unfermented beer) is around 20C
2. Watch your fermentation temperatures, no fermenting in the airing cupboard or anything like that.
In short, chuck away the instructions that came with your Canadian Blonde kit. :)
And as Padraic says above, ask plenty of questions here. We'll be only too delighted to help.
Much appreciated Paddy,
when you say "Pitch your yeast" you mean "add" to the wort?. The room I plan to use to ferment the beer has an average daily temp between 15-16 degrees, is that sufficient enough?
Yep, adding to the wort.
15-16C would be on the lower end of the fermentation scale for ales, but remember that temperature of your wort is going to be a degree or two higher than your ambient temperature. You should be fine - if the yeast doesn't want to play ball at that temperature you can move to a warmer room.
Say if the Yeast did not want to play ball, how would I know? What are the signs?
If the yeast is working, then you'll see a thick off-white layer on top of your fermenting beer. Something like this.

Also your airlock, if you're using one, will not be bubbling.
Don't be worried, just pay attention to your cleaning, sanitisation and temperatures. The yeast will be fine.
Hi Brian
Welcome to the site. If your daytime temp ia little on the lowside get your fermentor a lagging jacket.

Just spotted this thread. Welcome Brian.
I'm one of the other few Limerick brewers.
If there's anything you need (advice / ingredients / equipment ) give me a shout and I'll try to help.
Also would have an interest in any sort of brewing club down this side of the country.
Hey Lads,
Good to see a Limerick club forming at last. I'm in Raheen and would be interested in getting something started. I recently moved from kits to extract, so if you need help Brian, ring me(085-7023336).

Hi guys,
It would be great to get some kind of Limerick Club going, I'm in west limerick it i have me up with Loftybush previously to exchange a few bottles and get feedback.
Instead of hijacking Brians thread im going to open a new thread in relation to a limerick meetup. If we could get a list of names we can go from there.
Hurrah, this is gathering pace. In my 12 months of brewing i've not met any brewers in Limerick. All information i've recieved thus far has been over the phone, so a local co-op setup will be great and beneficial to all.
